Durance Summer Fig Soap

Sometimes, it’s the most simple of things that provide the most pleasure. I’m liking this brand more and more by the day as I uncover their products – Durance Summer Fig Soap is the embodiment of a simple joy. The soap has that really clean scent that French soaps tend to have – but also very gentle notes of sweet fig that are released into the lather. When I think about the handwashes and soaps we already have in the house, they’re actually quite highly scented – I have Molton Brown Rhubarb & Rose in the kitchen and much as I like it, even Mr BBB is asking how long it will take to finish because there’s only so much rhubarb any one man can take!

It’s only a little soap, but Durance Summer Fig Soap is packed with elegance – it smells of clean, summer days in the garden. At EU4.90, a perfect treat. Durance used to be in John Lewis – why they let it go is a mystery because it’s such a lovely brand. As things stand, you have to get it from the website.

Is soap (especially in bar form) enjoying a revival at the mo?

To be honest if I saw that on the shelf I probably wouldn’t pay it any attention as the packaging has that ‘grannyish’ National Trust look about it but I do love fig-scented products so I’d probably actually love the soap. Packaging aside, it’s a shame that the “Durance” name is a bit meh too (I’m sure it sounds far nicer in it’s native French tongue than in English) because the products do sound really lovely, just not keen on the branding/styling that goes with it.

That’s the beauty of Blog reviews though – such a great way of discovering new brands and products which you wouldn’t ordinarily see/notice or think would be right for you.

  2. The Eau de Toilette of Summer fig is my favorite from Durance.
