A restoration of the Westbourne Grove Diptyque store in London brought about the Londres candle which is rather lovely. With inspiration taken from Columbia Road Flower market, it’s a blend of heliotrope, lilac, juniper and hyacinth with a backdrop of spices. Actually, I don’t find it spicy really – it’s more of a background warmth – I’m picking up much more lilac and hyacinth that are both generous in their amount. There’s something dewy about it as well – unless you have a severe dislike of any of the above notes, I can’t see what’s not to like. If I walked into a room full of this fragrance I’d be very happy!
The candle itself is so pretty – a shiny silver with lilac floral embellishments (apparently inspired by English wall papers – I don’t think anyone told them we’re doing Scandi style now.. ) and somehow the outside fits perfectly with the scent of the inside.
At the moment, it’s only available at the new Westbourne Grove store (195 Westbourne Grove
W11 2SB London) but I really hope that it becomes more widely available – I can’t see this being anything other than very popular. It’s £48 if you do happen to be passing.
