Dior Rock Coat and OPI Silver Shatter

Much as I absolutely love the idea of Rock Coat, I just can’t make it work in reality. It’s supposed to give a smoky top coat that allows the under colour to show through. Well, it does that, but it just doesn’t seem to make any under shades look better – in fact, as you’ll see, it made yellow – where I thought it would work really well – look revolting. I think where it did look good was over red but the top coat didn’t make a shade that doesn’t already exist somewhere. You’d just never notice it was there or wasn’t just a dark red in the first place. Anyway, see for yourselves and if you can think of a better colour where it might bring something to the nail effect party, let me know and I’ll give it a go.

And after….oops

OPI Shatter in Silver is slated to launch in May to co-incide with the launch of the Pirates of the Caribbean collection. I love the existing black Shatter – but hate it matte so always have to gloss it up with a top coat. The same applies for silver Shatter – I absolutely adore the effect it gives but find it dull without glossiness. Here it is over the cool pink shade, Sparrow Me The Drama. Gorgeous.

  1. The Dior is frankly rubbish.

I completely agree about shatter polish and matte. I always gloss my Barry M up.

That pink and silver is very nice, very nice.

I’m just not sure what the Dior is meant to do, really? Perhaps try it over a nude shade…

Aching for the OPI. Love the look of this whole collection.

Oh wow, the silver shatter over the pink is GORGEOUS! Will be looking out for it I think.

  4. Stacie

The silver shatter is amazeballs. I don’t see the point in the other one. Being Dior it won’t be cheap and it doesn’t add anything xoxox

Thanks for the swatches! Maybe you could try Rock Coat over a glitter polish?

Thanx for the swatches,I think I’m definitely gonna have to purchase the OPI Silver Shatter polish. It will look amazing in the summer with an extra glossy top coat x

  7. Silver Shatter is SO. COOL.

  8. The Dior rock polish was created to be used over a dark colour to bring it one shade darker and give it the high shine ‘rock’ finish. It was not created to be used over yellows or light colours. They are releasing new shades with the launch of the new addict range, and the rock coat can be used over these, for example they are releasing an aquamarine colour and the rock coat turns it emerald green. I absolutely love it over gris montaigne and bond street.

I tried the rock coat over dark purple and it is fantastic. It made it look nearly black, but you could see the purple through it and it was very shiny and long lasting.

  10. I agree with Jenny, I think the Rock Coat works best over darker shades. It pairs so well with the other Rock Your Nails colors, especially Nirvana – but it looks good with Purple Mix as well.

I posted some pictures of Dior Rock Coat over those both Purple Mix and Nirvana. Really happy with how it turned out.

Give it a try over something darker, I think you’ll be much happier.

Maybe you can try over OPI Teenage Dream. I think it looks good. 🙂
