I find it really hard to get interested in ‘global colour ambassadors’ for brands… or brand make-up artists in general. From a press point of view, I struggle to get a non-biased make-up artist opinion for features – if you ask a brand ambassador, basically you get a list of their brand’s products and nothing especially useful. I’ll specifically exclude from that Lisa at Benefit because she gives some incredible quotes and if asked not to focus on her own brand, she will work around it. I’ve literally had to scrap entire swathes of a feature because I can’t get a sensible answer that isn’t blatant product placement so my first port of call is always independent make-up artists like Kenneth Soh or Luke Stephens.

So, when Clinique announced their ‘global colour ambassador’, Jenna Menard, I can’t say I was terribly interested. However, I got a brochure through today that show some really beautiful looks created by Jenna with a multi-cultural theme that is very Clinique and yet not very Clinique at the same time! See what you think:

I love the direction Jenna is taking Clinique in.. no more stuffiness, but plenty of attitude and some incredibly wearable but clever looks at the same time. Nice. The third look, with pink eyes that really work, is my favourite.
