Clarins Joli Rouge Brilliant Lipsticks

Nothing quite gives a juicy lip like Clarins Joli Rouge – it’s not lipstick and it’s not gloss but more of a balm/veil hybrid. So what you get is lips that look lightly coloured, sheeny and plump. I’d put it in the ‘weekend’ make up category – a bit of something pretty rather than your full on vamp (too alarming for a dog walk around Greenwich park).

From twelve shades, there is a good selection of colour pops or neutrals and there’s a selection for all skin tones in my opinion. Above from bottom to top is Tea Rose, Guava and Raspberry.

And the swatch is in the same order.

And the same order in the swatch. I have to say that I’ve pulled out Cherry (top picture) to keep – this is the kind of red that I can wear without feeling self conscious – it’s not too full on with pigment but at the same time, there’s enough colour to be a nuance of red.

Clarins Joli Rouge Brilliant Lipsticks contain mango oil and marsh samphire extract (not really familiar with that ingredient) and feel sleek and hydrating on the lips. They’re launching this month for £20 and I should think will be the antidote to a gloomy February morning if you’re in the mood to treat yourself.

I was a bit disappointed with the new Joli Rouge lipsticks that Clarins launched earlier this year. The new lipsticks were so different to what they replaced. So is this launch of a brilliant version a realisation that they have upset their core customers or did they just get the re-launch the wrong way round?

I don’t know! I love the finish on this because personally I don’t always like a dense and saturated lipstick – brands often plan product years in advance so who actually knows what the Clarins great scheme of things is!
