I honestly nearly jumped out of my skin when I did a price check on the Cire Trudon Winter Scents Trio – it’s £160! I was not expecting that. So, I think it’s fair that I can be nit-picky and say that at that price, I’d expect the labels to be stuck down properly. In fact, I don’t think I’d expect labels at all – I think a little hand etching at the very least would be more price compatible.
On the plus, I love the antiqued gold on the inside of the candles that contributes to the overall festive feel of them. The scents are intense and amazing – Cire Trudon is a French heritage brand dating back to 1643 and I think you really do get that feel of time gone by from them. I really can imagine a glowing candlelit chapel infused with incense and spice aromas – they are incredibly evocative.
Another lovely twist is that each candle is named for one of the Three Kings, so Melchior, Gaspard and Gabriel. Melchior is all myrhh and benzoin – very rich and deep, Gabriel is leathery, a bit sweeter with candied chestnut notes and Gaspard is swathes of incense and orange. I’m not sure I’d want these for Christmas – I think the time for them is before Christmas – in the run up to the event – because these are those rare scents that can really move you, emotionally, away from the wrapping, tinsel and ads that make you cry to thinking about and feeling a bit more of the spiritual and historical element. I don’t know… there’s something about these.. even at £160.
If you did win the lottery recently or just want something very, very special to scent your home or office, they’re HERE.

Gabriel not Balthazar? Odd decision.
Exactly my thought. Odd.
I’m letting you off this time Jane as you didn’t know Cire Trudon is my favourite – now added to my (expensive) wish list aargh!
They are much more expensive than Diptyque! I bought the Diptyque Sapin candle (pine) which is one of the 3 candles they have for this holiday season. It cost US$70 and burns for hours.
I was given one of these at an event once and it was absolutely gorgeous so I can well understand why somebody who had the budget would splash out. For me though, I have to stick to candle bargains at TK Maxx.
