[unpaid/sample] There’s quite a lot to say about the latest iteration of CHANEL No.5 that’s been given a deliciously shiny gold number 5 to make it even more tempting to Chanel magpies like me. This is limited edition and part of their Holiday 2021 collection.

CHANEL No.5 Limited Edition Fragrance 2021

Firstly, bye-bye fancy box. This version has been pared back to the bare essentials and uses biodegradable paper pulp to form the shape of the bottle – it’s easily recyclable, if you can bear to part with it.

An issue with recycled glass is that it’s difficult to make it as ‘glossy’ as new glass – it doesn’t have the same lustre or clarity and this presents a problem for luxury brands who exist on perfection and the highest presentation. Chanel has worked with luxury packaging suppliers, Pochet du Corval, recently awarded Living Heritage Company status, to create a bottle incorporating recycled glass that has the same shine and transparency as regular glass. It’s from a specific step in the recycling process although they keep their cards close to their chests on exactly what.

If the original No.5 is not for you, the same metallic element applies to a limited edition of No.5 L’Eau which has a silver number five.

It seems that this edition of CHANEL No.5 is an extension of the CHANEL Factory collection that launched earlier in the year to mark 100 years of No.5 – it sold out everywhere in double quick time and I expect this will do exactly the same. It can only be an iconic brand that loses nothing from being stripped of adornment or ornamentation – I love this bare bones approach that marks CHANEL No.5 as timeless and desirable in any guise. It’s not actually due to launch until the 28th but I’ve spotted it on the official website HERE. It’s £130.
