Buying From Sephora? Not Anymore..

Twitter can throw up the most useful conversations – last night revealed that if you live in the UK you can no longer shop Sephora USA (thank you @waseemac). In fact, you can’t even look at Sephora.com because you get immediately re-routed to Sephora.fr. Even if you try going Incognito or any other undercover route. Not only can you, as a UK citizen, not even peep at the Sephora.com site, you can’t spend any of your points that you might have earned while filling LVMH coffers.

@susan1375 tweeted Sephora about it and got this response: “Hi Susan, we do apologize for the inconvenience. We suggest that you reach out to Sephora France for further assistance.” Which, if you will pardon my language, is eff all of useless. There was no notice given, just one day, the UK couldn’t see America.

Sephora.com is a useful resource for price checking, for looking at new product, for ordering gifts for American friends and for staying up to date. Mr BBB is regularly in the USA – I can’t even tell him what to buy because I can’t see anything. I think they just looked at the GDPR legislation and wondered if they could really be bothered to apply the rules, thought nahh, not really, and so just blocked out an entire country instead.

Rude.

  1. Oh dear, what a massive fail! I wonder if the rest of Europe is blocked from the US site too then?

    1. I am Portuguese and I just logged into Sephora.com without any major issues.
I don’t see why are they blocking you guys from the webside. It does not make any sense.

  2. Sara

I agree with you Jane, it’s very rude of Sephora.
However I have managed to find a way round it & got on the Sephora US site whilst physically sitting on the sofa in the UK. If you use a a secure virtual private network & change the location to a US location then you can get into Sephora.com
Bit of a faff but hope it helps.

    1. Jane

      ooh thanks x

Well they’ve shot themselves in the foot! I guess Nordstrom will gain from Sephora’s short sightedness because they ship to the UK. As for that phrase “reach out” … puke, puke and thrice puke!! What’s wrong with “contact”!?

  4. Don’t think its GDPR. I live in Greece and can access the US site (although there is a Greek one too)

  5. Natasza

I agree GDPR shouldn’t be thrown in the mix because apparently not only other EU countries’ citizens can view the website but also sephora.com still ships to Germany. It is a curious (and highly annoying) issue nevertheless – it’s one thing to drop country from a shipping list overnight (without informing the customers) and it’s a whole different issue to block the website for the entire country (that has JUST been on a very limited foreign shipping list!). This problem doesn’t even apply to me personally and even I am pissed.

  6. aaaaaaaaa it just happened to me as well from The Netherlands! ugh so annoying!

  7. Jen

I kept looking a few weeks back and there was suddenly no option again to ship to the UK! Not impressed!

  8. Katie McGaughey

oh WHATTT this is so annoying! i used to check up on reviews before purchasing here in the UK as well!

  9. Luciana

    Same with Ulta.

  10. Susan

I am @susan1375 they hadn’t bothered telling the us phone team and when I emailed several brands they hadn’t told them either. Some brands who sell exclusively through Sephora such as bite beauty are going to get a nasty surprise when their sales are down

  11. Chrissy

This is so annoying! My husband goes to the US frequently and I sometimes ask him to pick me up a few things. How will I know what’s available if I can’t access the website?! I love browsing Sephora.com just to see what’s new in the world of beauty. Argh!

  12. Liesbeth

    How annoying!
I can still access the .com site from Belgium (but sadly they don’t even ship to Belgium)
    21st century anyone?

  13. Lizzie

No way! I used to browse the site a lot to look for new products, and like you, had some points built up. WTF? The range of products on the European sites is nothing like as good.

  14. Donna

Okay, someone has to say it. I blame Trump! LOL

But really so stupid. I like to read reviews of products and know if sold on Sephora I can read usually quite a few there. Also, check colours as some brands are just awful with the photos and Sephora will say beige/gold or whatever which gives me an idea what the item will actually look like.

I remember for years rumours of Sephora coming back to the UK(they had two stores Bluewater and Fulham(not sure about the latter but I did phone them once) in M&S of all places. Or we would get our own website, which of course never ever happened. As LVMH own Sephora I was always surprised they never came to the UK properly.

I can read French but the way the Euro vs Sterling goes up and down you have to check how much you will actually pay. Sephora US at least told you in sterling at checkout.

Interesting. And rude! I’m in Australia and I can look, but not order. They’ve never shipped to us though, so no change there- but I can at least look.

  16. That is absolutely appalling! :S I know we get some brands over in the UK now, such as Kat Von D but we don’t get EVERYTHING! Unless this is a sign of us getting our own website, but that I highly doubt.

It’s even more disgusting that you can’t use your hard earned points now. :S

It’s the same with feelunique. I can’t use the UK version, bec. we Austrians “should” use a German version.
Both countries are not my country to start with, yet I am forced to use the German one. I visit often in the UK and the UK offers the miniature trial thingy for 4quid, whilst the German version does not.

I ordered it once to my friend’s UK house, paid via credit card. You can’t believe the faffing to get to that point of ordering it.

    1. Jane

      how annoying!!

  18. Clare

I won’t be ordering anything from Sephora in that case. Humph!!

  19. Coco

Whaaaaaat? I don’t understand- how can they do this? What happens to all our points that I have saved over the years?
The Sephora US emails keep on arriving into my inbox but all links end up on the French website – I can’t even read French
Why, why, why? I never realised that a company can totally ban you from viewing their other country websites – I’ve tried my best but can’t get back on any of other Sephora sites….. I’m so confused as to why a big company like Sephora would upset their UK customers? Are we so insignificant that they do not care? Humph……

  20. LMG

I can see it from Switzerland – is handy to check reviews of products, but they don’t deliver to here

  21. Agnes

I ordered a few times from Sephora US but my parcel always got stuck at the border and I had to pay custom on it. I also found the shipping quite expensive. I much prefer Beutylish, the only problem is that Sephora carries so much more brands (including my favorite brand of lipsticks: Bite Beauty). I found that Sephora was not too kind for the overseas customers, for example I was a VIB Rouge member but could not benefit from their 20% VIB sale just because I am an overseas customer. I found this very rude.
