I’ve been testing lots of glosses that don’t break the bank recently – and they’re pretty impressive.

Top slot goes to Look Beauty’s Double Hit Lipstick and Gloss in Rose Riot that is such a pretty pink/coral shade. I prefer to have some coral as I think it warms up the face (not literally!) and this is exactly the shade to give your complexion a little bit of a perk up. It has lipstick at one end and gloss at the other so you can do a double whammy or just pick one to wear. I used both this morning and while they aren’t particularly long lasting, they are very creamy with a sweet, almost almondy scent. The Double Hit is £7 from Superdrug.

Next up is Maybelline Superstay 24H Intensive Colour and Balm that also costs £7 (actually I have spotted it on line at varying prices but the most consistent is £7). I loved the colour of this – Soft Taupe – a very neutral colour with just a little grey in the shade so it looks hyper-neutral.. a false natural if you see what I mean and that, paired with really dark kohl eyes is a look that I love. With anything that is supposed to stay such a long time, the danger is that it will dry the lips. And, it does. I cheated by not using the balm but using clear Lanolips instead which I don’t think helped the longevity but did stop the dryness. Again, I was impressed although the texture is quite thick. I will definitely use it again.

Finally, and because they only came through my door about two hours ago, Miners Fluro Gloss at £2.99. The scary looking green one is very sheer so you don’t look queasy, but what is more impressive is that Fluro is a massive trend for spring and Miners are bang on it to get this trend look out early. They’re very sweetly flavoured which won’t help them to stay on the lips!
