Bobbi Brown Pastel Brights

There’s something to be said for the sheer mastery of reinventing neutral shades – the Bobbi Brown Pastel Brights Palette is a great example of that but I just can’t get excited about it. In fact, my first thought was ‘enough’! It just seems neither one thing nor the other to me. The shades are Ivory (in EVERY single palette!), Baby Pink, Champagne Quartz, Platinum, Iced Blue and Rockstar and the last four shades are metallic. A metallic baby blue is really hard to wear at the best of times so I guess on a personal level what I’d pick out to wear would be Champagne and Rockstar, the grey metallic. And maybe the pink because that could look pretty with Champagne. But otherwise, I don’t know, I don’t really get it!

It could be that it’s a lot more lively in the flesh – it’s already on sale at BobbiBrown.com in the US – actually, I don’t know whether we’ll get it in UK, I haven’t heard. I can see that it’s a very fresh and spring like – but not sure how wearable it really is.

I think it seems like a good idea if you just want one palette because there’s a range of colours. But I agree… that blue, eurgh :/
The packaging and brush looks nice, but I think when there’s SO many palettes on the market, this is a poor show.

I don’t even own any Bobbi Brown but I still sigh at every palette (and collection really). It looks pretty but I prefer a wider range of colours to include a medium and a dark shade to all work together. Those are more ‘wash of colour on the eye’ looking, Ivory to highlight and Rockstar for some ‘definition’? Actually, covering each side and making them trios makes them look more workable…

I think it’s quite unfair for you to judge this before you have actually tried it. BB palettes are generally beautiful and I see no difference between this and the Naked 1,2,3…500 that UD does every single year.. Yet you rave about those! I think it’s a bit of a double standard really. I think first it was Imdeen and then Joan Collins rave reviews that made me question your validity but this might be the cherry on top!

I love Imedeen! I still take it to this day… I can’t see why you’d even question that when its a product that I used for a sponsored post but literally months and months later am still using because it really worked. And I’m not sure what you mean re Joan Collins.. I think it’s very interesting looking – very different – and there’s nothing wrong with the products I’ve seen? I only feel a little bored by the relentless BB palettes that all include Bone and this one that includes a colour that’s almost impossible to wear – if you already have a Bobbi palette chances are you will have most of these shades covered off. It’s only my opinion and not stated as fact – maybe if and when I see it it will ‘sing’ a bit more and if it does, I’ll say so. The irony is that you think I’m unfair for judging and yet you’ve just judged two products and me!

I’m sorry Jane, I shouldn’t have jumped like that. I have been reading your blog for years and actually really trust your judgement on products… I just happen to think that Bobbi palettes are usually really well done- and she may put similar colours in her palettes but bear in mind that not everyone owns every palette like us makeup junkies… She constantly reinvents her “classics” so you probably won’t find any off the wall choices from her and maybe to more adventurous makeup wearers that seems a bit samey but that’s what a lot of women look for in their day to day looks. Again, sorry if my comment seemed brash, I can appreciate that this is your opinion!

Don’t worry! I think Bobbi palettes are a little divisive because many of them are so samey – someone else actually pointed out that its exactly the same as a 2010 palette, which I’m going to see if I blogged because I wonder if I liked it then?! But, you’re right..they’re almost the perfect edit usually but to me this one didn’t offer anything special. Maybe it was never meant to. But really, no problem – that’s what the comment section is for, for you to air your view and thank you so much for coming back :-))

  4. Love the subtle shimmer in all of the shades, the metallic grey is gorgeous

At first glance, I really like this palette but I wouldn’t want to create a whole look with it. I would use the shades along with other eye shadows I have. If used that way, I think the colors would add a pop to other looks. Thanks for the review! (I agree. It’s kinda useless on its own.

This palette is the exact same one as she did in Spring 2010. I have it and have just checked and the colours are the same. The only difference is that my one has the Mahogany shade in for lining etc.
The shades are very pretty and sheer so the colour pay off is very subtle.
