The Big Easy is Benefit’s answer to an updated BB cream and launches in April. It’s a base with a liquid-to-powder finish – I would say it ends up a velvet finish rather than matte but when I tested it I missed the dewiness of BB creams, so in terms of finish, they are not alike at all. However, unlike some brands trying to get away with a BB with an SPF15, Benefit have put in SPF35 which is high for a base. Benefit claim that The Big Easy is oil controlling (thanks to licorice plant extracts) which I can well believe – the formula is oil free and errs to dry in feel like other ‘oil control’ products I’ve tried.
There are six shades of The Big Easy, and they’re all self-adjusting so you just pick the closest one and it self-adjusts to a perfect match. Self-adjusting formulas are interesting – I had a comment from a BBB reader who said she had a lot of freckles and found that self-adjusting formulas adjusted to her freckles and not her skin shade.
Overall, this one is not for me – I don’t have oily skin and I like a dewy finish which this doesn’t have, but as a daily base – especially over the summer months, it’s a winner for anyone who likes a velvet base and can get a little shiny. I don’t have a price on it yet but will update when I get one.
