Becca Hydra-Light Plumping Lip Balm

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] The absolute irony of finding something utterly lovely from Becca just as the news breaks that it’s to close. At least I can give you a steer of something to stock up on before it does (in September, reportedly).

These are absolute box tickers for translucent, balmy colour that is extra shiny – gleamy, even – that keeps lips feeling hydrated and supple. It’s a very soft formula with a light wash of colour – enough to show but relatively low-fi.

Becca Hydra-Light Plumping Lip Balm

In recent years, the brand has focused on highly lit and ultra beam looks – I’ve seen so much less of that look on Instagram recently and this will have repercussions for many brands who put all their eggs in the glitter basket. But the Becca Hydra-Light Plumping Lip Balms are just extra-dewy rather than lit with iridescence or shimmer.

My favourite is this one, Lagoon, which is a glossy red with watermelon tones that wakes up my whole face, even at a low impact pigment level, although pink toned Spray (who let that through?) is very spring-ish.

In the swatch, it’s Lagoon, Tide, Spray and Dew and there are 8 shades in total. SpaceNK has them HERE for £18, non-affiliate HERE.

So gutted about Becca that I emailed them to say so! Their backlight primer is amazing and I just don’t know what will replace it. They said that stock will not be replenished after end sept 2021 so hey ho.
    Have a lovely weekend Jane

such a shame.. we will have to work on finding dupes.

Sarah, Estée Lauder run a “gone but not forgotten” service. Whatever is left is returned to their main office and you can always buy from them via customer service until the product runs out or until they offload discontinued stock to retailers such as TKMaxx.

That’s good to know 0 thanks for sharing!

  2. I am so upset about Becca closing their doors, I will miss their products!

Ooh these look so pretty. I’m getting a lot of feathering now when I wear lipstick (the horror) so maybe a balm is the way forward.

Autograph has an anti-feathering lip liner – might be worth a go?

Thanks Jane, I shall have a look now. I usually use a MAC liner but it’s not stopping the creep……

good luck – although you are right that less pigment has less far to travel, the balminess of it means it’s quite a loose formula xx

Becca was amazing when it launched, not just the exquisite packaging, but product that just made your skin amazing, like you had no makeup on. Sleek, minimal range, all about SPF which was a wild concept at the time. Only thing close now is Westman Atelier. I won’t miss what it has become, but I have been missing it for what it was years ago.

I agree! A front runner on skin glow …

It is always sad to see an old friend disapappear. I was heart broken when Mary Quant and Biba makeup went ‘west’. Mary Quants ‘Grape Crush’ lipstick has haunted me for absolute years! I have tried to find a replacement, dupe to no avail. You can still get MQ makeup, but it is difficult to get and definitely not the same. No Grape Crush amongst the shades either. I thought I’d never get over Laura Ashley selling out, which I haven’t I might add! Some shops and products you can live without, but for me Grape Crush lipstick and nailvarnish vanishing was like the Ravens leaving the tower of London!! I am sure people feel the same about Becca. Bourgeois has pulled out of the UK as well. We are living in a time of miss rule!!

You’ve made me want Grape Crush now Christina!

I love a tinted lip balm! I have such dry lips that finding the most lusciously moisturising one is my Holy Grail/ search for the perfect black trousers!

I have found that lip balms have so upped their game if you’re prepared to spend a bit more. I also have very dry lips and these didn’t exacerbate but I try to wear a balm overnight (Sisley or Biossance). I hear you re the trousers – ditto jeans – my wardrobe is testament to the black trouser treasure hunt!
