Now that daylight is changing from interminable winter gloom to something rather brighter, it can be a bit of shock to see your skin in this new, far more revealing vein. It’s not summer yet, so no need to dive to the bottom of your make up bag for tinted moisturisers, but if you use foundation, this is a good time to switch to something less weighty and more flattering. I love Estee Lauder Doublewear Light; sheer, weightless and complexion perfecting, it’s a good £22.50 spent. Doublewear Foundation used to get a bad press – known for it’s hefty appearance on the skin, it was considered something that only the ‘counter girls’ would wear. Applied properly, i.e. with a sponge or foundation brush and a light hand, and not trowelled on, Doublewear saved the day for many imperfect faces. No, I am truly in love with my YSL Perfect Touch – it was a bit of a treat and investment, lovely big brush and beautiful packaging of course, BUT put it in your make up bag, and take it out with you, and even take it away on holiday, and the mess is unbelievable. The liquid spills into the cap, and it’s impossible to open it unless you have kitchen towels to start mopping it up! What a waste – and bit of a design fault me thinks… surely its not meant to stay stationary! Anyone else had this problem?

I find tinted moisturisers make my skin really dry. Can you recommend a brand that won’t give me parchment face?

Hi Russian – that’s an unusual problem because the whole point is that tinted moisturisers are supposed to moisturise! I really like Clarins Hydracare Tinted Moisturiser – and in fact, Clarins are about to bring out a new version of this in April called Super Restorative Tinted Cream SPF20, whihc looks really promising as it’s very replenishing and moisturising.
