bareMinerals Original Liquid Mineral Foundation

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I put off featuring this new foundation from bareMinerals because I was completely convinced that it was the wrong colour. I will test products that aren’t exactly the right shade so I can get a feel for them texturally and finish wise, but this looked so warm I needed to find a space where it wouldn’t matter if it looked terrible for a while. That’s been done on Monday afternoon – no Zooms, no need to go out and no visitors – but really I needn’t have worried because bizarrely, it was absolutely fine. It shouldn’t be because it is so yellow looking but it is.

It’s called ‘original’ because it’s inspired by the original loose mineral foundation’s absence of unnecessary ingredients. Original Liquid has half the amount of ingredients that a ‘traditional’ foundation might and yet still manages to do the same things, such as blur effect, coverage, nourishment and SPF. I’ve tried all of the bareMinerals bases, with Complexion Rescue being my go-to for many years – the only reason it isn’t still is because the front running coverage-lite has been copied so many times and there are lots of reduced coverage bases now. I still have it in my make-up line up and it’s a rare week that it doesn’t make an appearance.

I mean, it really doesn’t look like my shade, does it? Perhaps it’s the plant powders? I don’t know but I wouldn’t have picked it out for myself and that might be a problem if you’re not able to get to a counter. The studies done on bareMinerals Original Liquid Mineral Foundation are more about long term – 100% of 61 women saw an improvement in pore appearance after 4 weeks and the same amount saw a visible improvement in skin redness. However, this is a short term test that resulted in coverage that feels light, yet covers over expectation without looking like high coverage. I definitely saw a blur effect across the pores on my cheeks and the liquid didn’t sit in the pores on my nose (thank you magnifying mirror of doom for showing me that). There are 11 shade intensities and 3 undertones so everyone should be catered to. I wanted to do the AR test to see if the shade I have (Light 08) would be replicated on the colour matcher but it wasn’t working either on my lap top or phone. So I did the quiz instead and came out with a completely different colour match. Perhaps 08 wasn’t ever meant to be my match but it was near enough to be acceptable – I’d like the same with a neutral undertone and the quiz matched me Neutral Medium 15. Definitely take the AR colour match option on the website though, if it’s working. Same for the concealer.

Anyway, a very decent base with a natural skin finish that you need use only one pump for medium coverage (two for high) so a little will last a long time. The brush is brilliant, by the way – a great asset for any base – and has 15% off at FeelUnique HERE making it £21.25 instead of £25. This brand always has good brushes. The foundation is £31 (SPF20) and providing you can colour match, I’d thoroughly recommend. You can find it HERE , non-affiliate HERE.

I must say I was disappointed with the shade range for this. I’m very pale and the lightest shades all look too orange for me. It’s the Lancome Teint Idole concealer all over again!

They DO look orange I agree.

I have never been able to find a match in Bare Minerals. I am a super pale, ghostly olive complexioned person, so everything is always orange or peach. I find BM runs pretty warm in general, though.

Complexion Rescue is my favourite base from them and they do a good range of shades in that.

Its not you my dear its bareminerals. They have totally destroyed their name via the yellow indertone they have applied to all their products. Its impossible to shade match. I used this brand since it launched yrs ago but just recently after numerous attempts to find my shade in the yellow haze changed to PUR and found my shade instantly. Very unfortunate move for bareminerals very disappointing.

I’m still okay with Complexion Rescue – thank goodness!
