If the thought of yet another 70’s fashion revival is making your eyes roll, here’s a revival that hasn’t been anywhere for the past 39 years – Babe Fragrance! Babe took the title of Woman’s Fragrance of The Year when it belonged to Faberge in 1977 so many of us will have an olfactory record of this already laid down (along with our Aqua Manda and bottles of Charlie).
Reviving long gone fragrances has become something of a micro-trend – I can remember being furiously jealous that my best friend at primary school got given an Aqua Manda talc for her birthday! Babe was discontinued in 1992 but was barely available for many years before then. If you need a reminder of the notes, it was a blend of raspberry, hyacinth, bergamot, lily of the valley, honey, rose, orris, carnation, jasmine, vetiver, musk, sandalwood, amber and treemoss – whew!
You might remember Margeaux Hemmingway being the ‘face-of’.
It’s the same team that was behind Aqua Manda’s revival (and Goya Black Rose) (HERE) and they stay incredibly close to the originals, so if you’re chasing a blast from the past, a Babe revisit is on the cards soon. The revival version of Babe hasn’t launched yet, but it’s on its way.
Believe it or not, if you can’t wait for the recreation, there are still some original bottles doing the rounds although I have no idea whether the fragrance will still be okay or not (HERE).
