Aveda Passion Flower Make Up Collection, AW2012

I often think that Aveda make-up is the poor relation in the Estee Lauder stable. It always looks a little bit apologetic and frankly, natural or not, it could do with a little love spent on it to bring it up to speed with other, let’s be honest, sexier, natural brands.

However, Autumn/Winter 2012 is pretty – the Aveda Nourish-mint Smoothing Lip Colors in particular are packing a punch pigment wise, especially Wild Fuschia, a beautiful and vivid colour that warms and intensifies the lips. The lipsticks are carmine free, but on the other side, they’ve flavoured them with mint. Why? I hate mint.

The Petal Essence single Eye Colours are very sweet using flower waxes of Geranium and Jasmine to give softness, but there is no denying that the darker colours are really quite hard to work with and don’t apply as evenly as I’d like. However, if you’re prepared to work with them they do look rather lovely on the skin, especially Green Tuberose and green is usually difficult to wear. This shade has both delicacy and vibrancy which I really like.

There are also some rehydrating Lip Glazes – again minty – but if you like a washed-out, nude lip look, Pearl Rose (the palest) is for you.

It’s a bit of a mixed bag this time and really needs a good shake-up in terms of appearance.

  1. I really like the look of the lip glazes! pretty shades x

  2. Not a fan of mint either, colours look really pleasant but I do agree that they always are done as an after thought by Lauder. x

  3. I was shocked way back when EL bought this line because I didn’t think it really fit in with their other lines. I did love their shampoos before the takeover. Makeup was just starting out and it was a great “natural” image.

Now, it just reminds me of tree bark and such. I just don’t get excited about this brand.
