Aerin Essentials Beauty Range

A while back I posted about Aerin Lauder’s own brand, Aerin LLC. The range is scheduled to launch later this month, so it’s time to have a look at it. On the one hand, it’s very elegant and extremely wearable; on the other hand, it’s very obviously Lauder and hasn’t really made a strong point of difference from Estee Lauder (and in particular it reminds of the Michael Kors for EL from a couple of years ago). I think we’re going to struggle to understand the appeal of Aerin in the UK – in the US, she is an icon, but getting the UK into the same state of Aerin adoration is going to be a tough call.

The palette at the top is Weekend, while a more pink toned version is named Weekday, above: they’re nothing if not chic. I’d wear the Weekend palette in a heartbeat – it’s beautiful.

As you can see, there’s a focus on natural, sophisticated looks; nothing here to scare the horses, but actually I like that – if I was starting from scratch and looking for high quality, natural looking, effortless make-up, I’d probably start right here.

The range is definitely worth looking out for; from the look of the US prices, it’s in the luxury range ($70 per palette), but it looks luxury so I don’t have any issue with that. If I would wish one thing for the Aerin range, it would be that it would not be quite so ‘Lauder’ – a new range, even within the EL line-up, should have a very clear point of difference.

  4. oooh swooning, I’d def wear that gloss. I’m v excited about this, even though it’s so commercial. I think I just want her life.

FYI anonymous, apparently Harrods will have the UK exclusive, with 20 other UK stores to follow, including Selfridges and John Lewis.

Gorgeous elegant colours ! That gloss is perfect. Do you know where they will launch the line ?

It’s got my attention but the prices will put me off. The gloss looks very similar to the Pure Colour gloss Estee Lauder already do called Simply Pink (numbered 35)

  7. It is interesting that you note that the Aerin line is not dissimilar to the “regular” Estee Lauder line. In my reading about the line, especially on the Estee Lauder website, I got the feeling that the company may be positioning Aerin to actually become the standard bearer of the brand. I don’t know what the sales and perception of Estee Lauder are in the UK, but in the U.S., although the company is very well regarded, the Estee Lauder label itself is perceived as rather “old lady” and not trendy or hip. I would love to hear your thoughts on this!

  8. Hi Nina… it is interesting to read your thoughts on this. I don’t think we have the perception that EL is ‘old lady’ in the UK, but until the PR machine gets going this side most people haven’t heard of Aerin. However, I think the press will love this range so it will really be a question of how much coverage it gets and whether there are ad campaigns in place to introduce Aerin. I know Aerin is very well known in the States but not here so only time will tell if she becomes as famous as her grandmother!
