Fig & Almond Cake
Fig & Almond Cake

The Cake I’m Baking: A few years ago I planted a fig tree (too near the house as it turns out) more in hope than expectation because I am no gardener! However, it has flourished beyond all measure so we get a beautiful crop of figs every summer. I’ve made several of the Otto Lenghi Fig, Yoghurt & Almond cakes and when the apples are ready from the apple tree, I’ll adjust the recipe slightly to make blackberry and apple cakes. It’s a super-easy cake that I’ve changed to make gluten free (just swap the flour for gluten free self raising) and the recipe is HERE. I serve this with low fat greek yoghurt but to be honest, it’s so juicy and moist it really doesn’t need anything at all.

Other Stories Boots

The Boots I’ve Been Buying: I really don’t need another pair of boots but couldn’t resist this sparkly heeled pair from Other Stories. It’s things like this that make saying goodbye to summer a bit easier… I cannot wait to wear black skinnies, my black swing polo neck and these to let the heels to the talking. They’re £125 HERE. I know.. but.. sparkles.

Bosch

The Series I’m Watching: I finally caved and got Amazon Prime a couple of weeks ago – my sister recommended this US Cop drama, Bosch, starring Titus Welliver, and I’m already on the second series. It’s a little bit corny but gritty and exciting at the same time – based on the books by Michael Connelly which I’ve never read (and probably won’t). Watch Annie Wersching play a quietly creepy new recruit. Star of the show is Harry Bosch, maverick detective (predictably), part-time and unreliable parent and owner of the most glamorous house in LA.

Em & Khi Show

The Podcast I’m Listening To: I’ve really enjoyed listening to a few episodes of the Em & Khi Show – and if you think you recognise that face, you do – it’s Mikhila (aka Msbudgetbeauty) and her friend Em chatting about beauty and life. One week it’s Pokemon Go under the spotlight, the next it’s Blogger Fraud. I love the fact it’s like listening to two of your own friends chatting and I keep wanting to join in! They’re funny, down to earth and hit on topics we can all relate to and have a view on. With influencers under the spotlight for being too bland, Em & Khi are anything but. You can download HERE.

Dior Lilac

The Nail Polish I’m Wearing: I’ve gone back a season to the Dior Spring collection because I absolutely love the lilac hued pink polish, named Lilac, for the off tone that it has. It looks like a Barbie pink shade but just a bit edgier and with the lilac downwash, it’s kind of mesmeric. There isn’t a lot of it left in stock but it’s going on both fingers and toes for my holiday (yes, finally getting one, from tomorrow!). You can find it HERE for £19.

Betsy Johnson Bag

The Bonkers Bag I’m Having: This is a last minute entry because a friend of mine has it and I fell in love with it when I met it for the first time yesterday! It’s completely crazy but all of the fun and the best thing about it? That you can connect the phone that acts as the handle (it has a strap too) to your mobile and use it. I cannot wait to be on the train having a conversation through the handle of my bag! It’s a TK Maxx bargain, too at £49 HERE and I’ve spotted it already on Ebay for £72 although I don’t know what the original price was.

Love those boots! Totally worth it for the sparkles! Sadly they don’t come in my size, but if they did I’d be there with you 🙂
Off to download the podcast too…

Too see how big a fig tree can grow Google Lambeth Palace fig tree. Have been working my way through the Bosch books on Audible, cannot face watching the series as the actor looks too young and trendy for Bosch. The bag raised a smile.

Ah well I haven’t read any of the books… so nothing to compare it to.. and I need to either move or trim the tree because it’s far too near the house – I really had no idea that it would flourish so enthusiastically!

Oh lucky you to have a fig tree! Having one here in the northeastern USA would require me to pot it and shift it from indoors to out every summer. Too much work I think- plus the weight would require a small dozer to carry it about. I’m crazy about figs- but sadly must purchase mine from the grocer.

  5. Oh Jane you’re such a loon. iI I’m with you when you’re carrying that bag and a call comes through, Ima running a mile! Also, WE HAVE A FIG TREE TOO! It’s bloody massive and has only just started bearing fruit after 9 years. The figs are lovely so I’m def going to try that cake!

  6. That bag is amazing! I don’t think I could pull it off, but I can’t resist!
