With twenty-three years of developing skincare under their belt, the team at REN is accomplished in understanding how skin behaves. And, let’s face it, it doesn’t always behave as well as we’d like it to. As you know, I use a lot of products from REN and have always been attracted by their formulas – it’s just so obvious that REN has exceptional formulators working behind the scenes – and their genderless approach has been there from the beginning. As they say, “all skin is sensitive” and they’re absolutely spot on with that.
It’s no coincidence that we’re seeing new solutions for sensitive skin and that’s because skin has never been more of a focus than it is now, and we have never used so many different products on our faces as we do now. Our complexions are yet to catch up with our desire to be experimental and to use stronger serums and lotions than ever before. Also consider that hormonal changes can cause a huge shift in what our complexions can tolerate – I used to call my skin bullet proof because I could put anything on it but not now. I’ve also got redness when I didn’t used to and want to use less, not more, products in my routine.
This is a strange job where multiple products come my way so I could be using new products every week if I wanted to but I have my go-to’s that I keep a supply of no matter what. It’s surprising when I looked through how many of them are REN. I always ask (cheekily) for the trial or travel samples as well because the need crops up more often than you’d think. A good case in point is the barista (now friend!) at my local coffee shop whose skin I saw every day. I also saw how unhappy she was with it – red, angry, blotchy and dry and she was just so fed up. So, I took her some Evercalm Redness Relief and Evercalm Global Protection and literally watched her skin transform over the next couple of weeks and with that transformation was just utter delight – mine to see and hers to experience.
So, while REN is celebrating the fact that one Evercalm Overnight Recovery Balm sells every fifteen minutes, I’m celebrating the fact that I have seen it work, on myself and on others and I’ve seen the effects touch people very genuinely and deeply. Their campaign, All Skin Is Sensitive, is a typical skin respectful approach – results matter, ingredients matter and treating your skin correctly matters. Acknowledging that anyone can have sensitivities means that the entire look and ethos of the brand disregards gender and age and focusses on just the skin. Their skin expert and global ambassador, David Delport, holds conservation close to his heart and there’s nothing he doesn’t know about skin. Definitely worth a follow on Instagram @david_renskincare HERE or you can read about him HERE.
One of the things that’s rarely talked about is the sensation of sensitive skin such as the sting of doom when you apply a product and know instantly it’s not right for you, the heat from redness, the pull of dryness and the tingling that signifies all is not right – if you’re not sensitive you don’t know these feelings but the relief when it dies down is huge. It’s not a pleasant thing to experience. So, I always have on hand REN Evercalm Overnight Recovery Balm and REN Barrier Support Elixir and they’re now just part of my beauty tester tool kit. The moment I know a product isn’t going to suit my skin (invariably, face masks or acids), I whip it off and slather on Elixir and/or Balm immediately. Thinking about it, I don’t ‘rely’ as such on many brands but these products from REN are non-negotiable and necessary.
If you’re ready to dip your toes in the sensitive skin waters, REN is HERE. Do you have a favourite REN Product? I’d love to know.
