Summer Fridays Lip Butter

[unpaid/purchase/affiliate] Although Summer Fridays has very recently been in the press for a batch recall of their Jet Lag Mask which causes redness and irritation for some users, they owned it, apologised, refunded and reformulated so we can move on. I bought this from Cult Beauty, the main stockist, because lip balms remain a bit of an obsession.

Summer Fridays Lip Butter

What I like about this is the texture – it’s a beautiful formula without being an exciting one – but the texture is very soft .. I’m not sure I’d quite claim it as a dupe for Sisley Balm but it’s as near as I think I’ve ever found. I’m still very much taken with Biossance Balm and have it at my desk at all times, but the Summer Friday texture is closer to Sisley than Biossance.

Lip Butter

The formula is shea, murumuru (full of oleic acid) and plant waxes so it sits well on the lips without disappearing in a flash, and has no taste so there’s no temptation to lick it off. It’s got a very light, sweet scent that I associate with shea but it’s really not intrusive. It gives a sheen to the lips that’s gloss-like and works well as a matte converter with lipsticks if you’re finding mattes too drying at the moment. I thought it was expensive at £19.50 but this comes from the person who has spend £50 on Sisley several times so I can’t really account for that – side by side, it’s obviously far more of a bargain! Anyway, it’s HERE, non-affiliate HERE.

  1. I didn’t love the biossance and usually love lanolips. I wonder if this is similar to lanolips. Having never splashed out for Sisley I can’t compare to that. I’ve read some people complaining the packaging means it can get messy as product goes everywhere when you first open it.

There’s also the keys soul care(?) balm, and then the huestick lip balm which I want to try. So many balms too little lips

It’s not quite as stiff as Lano – much softer in texture. I mean, I love a tube of Lano – was wearing one of the tints the other day but they’re not the same in my view x

      1. I think I’ll have to try it for myself. *adds to basket!

Hey BBB/Jane. I was wondering if you’ve tried the Crabtree and Evelyn lip balm? Asking b/c I adore the Bite Beauty Agave Lip mask (sorts out chapped lips lickity split) but it’s difficult to get here and the Crabtree and Evelyn one looks like it may have strong echos of that. Equally though, can’t be a*sed to to pay £16 if it’s so so.

      I don’t think I have .. sorry 🙂

I also love the Sisley lip balm! The one in my opinion that performs the closest is the By Terry Lip Balm (the version in a pot), that although has a rose scent it also has a very concentrated texture and performs better than most lip balms. It also just like the Sisley one, lasts for ages. I know the price difference is not huge, but the By Terry is £10 cheaper.

I just don’t get on quite as well with By Terry as Sisley – I love the rose scent but lovely as it is, it’s not a match for Sisley for me :-))
