Introducing The Japanese Cleansing Cloud

[ad] … otherwise known as What I Did In Lockdown. So, I’m nervously introducing my own product – the best of world beauty in a balmy bar. Beauty products and rituals have been a long-standing interest, particularly Japanese beauty where fine quality products are often presented in a cute way – I can’t resist things that make me smile, and I’m hoping you feel the same :-). Everyone I’ve shown it to has ended up smiling back when they see it… I don’t think there are many beauty products that can do that!

Japanese Cleansing Cloud

The inspiration for this particular cleansing bar is – obviously – Japan with a happy cloud paying tribute to the rituals of Japanese cleansing and bathing. Use it anywhere on your body for non-drying skin cleansing and washing. An infusion of Japanese yuzu releases a zesty aroma, while gentle rice milk and nourishing hemp oil give softening and moisturising suds. A cloud shape turns out to be a perfect hand-fit, too – I never thought I’d be testing clouds for a nice fit!

The saponified formula is made to the tipping point between a cleansing oil and a soft, skin-kind solid balm soap – any more oil and the Cloud would be rain 😊. Designed as an ‘everywhere’ bar, you can use the Japanese Cleansing Cloud all day for hydrating hand washing, in the shower for a morning-fresh complexion and body cleanse or take your time in the bath to lather up and relax. It’s safe and effective for use on the face. As well as the Yuzu, hemp and rice milk (mildly exfoliating), I’ve included coconut oil, olive oil, meadowfoam seed oil and avocado oil so there is a very high fatty acid count. Hemp is the wonder oil in this – high in linoleic and gamma-linoleic acids, as well as Vitamin E, D, B1 and B2 with minerals such as potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc and calcium. The packaging is fully biodegradable (bar is vegan, wax wrap is not – yet) and it costs £12/100g at victoriahealth.com HERE.

Next week I’ll take you through the journey of how my cloud came about – I’ve had some bumps and bruises and doing anything in the COVID storm was hard, but here we are, with a lot of thanks to Gill at VH who has encouraged, enabled and energised this project with care, thought and kindness. The INCI is below but if you have questions, please ask away.

INCI Sodium Cocoate, Sodium Olivate, Aqua, Sodium Avocadate, Sodium Hemp Seedate, Parfum, Rice Milk powder, CI 77891, Meadowfoam Oil, Citrus junos (Yuzu) Fruit Extract, Citric Acid, Linalool*, Kaolin, CI 77288, Limonene*, Benzyl Salicylate, Hydroxycitronellal, Citrus junos (Yuzu) Fruit Oil, Hexylcinnamal, Citronellol*, Geraniol*.)

* derived from natural essential oils/derived from yuzu essential oil

Ah thank you Steph – that’s really kind of you – Gill at VH has been instrumental in helping me make this happen.

  8. Lisey

Congratulations! What a lovely little thing! My baby boy has just moved to Madrid (just 24 hours before a State of Emergency was introduced) so stress levels are high – both here with me and there for him. I shall send him one of these to distract and cheer him.

Best of luck with it all.

    1. Jane Cunningham

Ah.. how stressful – mine lives in Sweden .. what strange times. I hope it puts a smile on his face 😉

      1. Lisey

I’m sure it will – he’s on tretinoin – by the sounds of the INCI list it won’t be too drying? Or would you recommend waiting until he’s finished?

        1. Jane Cunningham

It’s not at all drying .. I can’t really advise as that’s more a medical question as I’m unsure of the nature of tretinoin and strength etc. He can use on body and hands no problem in the meantime. I think maybe try it and see…

          1. Lisey

Thanks! Not looking for medical advice, just to check it was on the nourishing side. For years I bought him products from the salicylic/oily/blemish-phone side of town so I’ve had to get used to him having skin as dry as mine and needing appropriate products. And I think the days of him using a bar os ‘soap’ on his face are long gone

          2. Jane Cunningham

It absolutely is made to be skin nourishing but it has been through the saponification process so it’s really a bit of both. Poor chap – I feel for him because those treatments are so drying – you won’t find the bar as nourishing as a moisturiser, say, but neither will it strip. In fact, it’s got an approximate pH of 8 but I’ve done a lot of research into pH and skin returns to its own level within about 15 minutes. He might benefit from some supplements, thinking about it.

  9. Caroline Bishop

AH!! How blimmin’ brilliant – well done, that’s awesome!! SO ordering now.

    1. Jane Cunningham

      thanks so much Caroline!

  11. Antonia Dailly

I saw the little face on the cloud, and was smiling as I scrolled down to discover you had made it! I’m utterly delighted by it, and even more delighted that it is a solid bar- I’m trying to cut single use plastics out, and this looks perfect. Thank you.

    1. Jane Cunningham

That’s so nice to know – thank you! Please do keep it (if you buy) in a soap dish or on a soap stand – it’s a bit melty because of the oils. I don’t think there is a better comment than being ‘utterly delighted’ so now, so am I!

  12. Erica

Absolutely brilliant! Definitely made me smile so looking forward to trying it out! Congratulations Jane

  15. Jo Mille Saisons

The only problem I forsee is me not wanting to use it and make the cute face disappear but I guess that is easily solved by buying another one! Straight on the Christmas list- my mum honestly puts me on a ban for buying things for myself in case I accidentally buy myself something she has already bought me! 🙁

    1. Jane Cunningham

The face is quite deep so you won’t lose it til far down the bar… but hopefully the scent will make you smile anyway 🙂

  16. Clare

Yay. Well done Jane. Sounds lovely.

    1. Jane Cunningham

      Thanks so much Clare!
