Drunk Elephant

Drunk Elephant

There’s a very good reason to keep an eye on the brand, Drunk Elephant. I first blogged about the range in 2014 and said then, it was one to watch (ringing my own bell here!) and recently industry rumours have emerged that the Estee Lauder group has its eyes on the Marula oil based brand. The name comes from the fact that apparently, elephants like to eat the marula fruit which then ferments in the their stomachs and  makes them tipsy!

Drunk Elephant

It’s more about what’s not in this brand than what’s in it – Drunk Elephant contains no silicones, chemical screens, fragrances, including fragranced essential oils, or toxins. It’s a very ‘clean’ brand. One of the biggest sensitivity issues that I am contacted about is essential oils – no matter how organic or gentle, they can and do cause sensitivity which rules out a whole pile of great brands for some. I don’t react to essential oils, other than positively (dip me in a bath of Aromatherapy Associates and I’m a new person!) but if you do, you really have to carefully select your skincare. It’s definitely worth some further reading if this post piques your interest HERE.

Drunk Elephant

Sephora.com will ship, and if you’re dipping your toes in the Drunk Elephant water, start with the Marula Oil (above) and possibly the Framboos Glycolic Night Serum (I suggest this because Sam at Pixiwoos did a review and loved it). I know that the brand is doing the UK stockist rounds, so it’s a question of ‘watch-this-space’, and given that Sephora can barely keep it in stock, as soon as it hits our shores, I’d expect a stampede (see what I did there……).

I have used the Framboos AHA serum, the Vitamin C Serum, the Marula Oil, the Lippe and the B-Hydra hydration gel. My brief review of these items:
    – the Framboos and Vitamin C serums are absolutely great! The packaging shields the ingredients of these serums from air and light; pH of each serum is ideal for effectiveness; percentage of active ingredients also ideal. No fragrance. MUST BUY.
    – Marula Oil is terrific if you like face oils; no fragrance.
    – the Lippe did not moisturize my lips as well as the Clarins moisture replenishing lip balm.
    – B-Hydra hydration gel did not moisturize at all – only for really oily skin.

I’ve been using the 100% cold pressed marula oil from The Ordinary on my face and hair and so far impressed so will have to check this brand out, thanks Jane

  3. This brand is top of my want-to-try list, I really like their no-frills philosophy! Hoping they’ll be more available in europe soon. And I REALLY hope the big 2 keep their hands off.

I am confused about silicones. I have always avoided them but have recently has a mole cut off my foot. The mole was ok but I have a red scar. All the scar reduction products contain silicone. The one I chose seems to be working. No idea how they work. Are you still in touch with your science bloke? Am now wondering if I need to rethink on silicone products.

The name alone has sold me, such a clever one! Shame there are no stockists near me, I could do with a new oil!
