CeraVe Skin Care

[samples/affiliate] I first reviewed CeraVe back in 2014 – I’d heard the rave reviews from the US and ordered some cleanser on Amazon because I so wanted to try it. It wasn’t available in the UK then.

CeraVe Skin Care

Actually, it was this very cleanser and I loved the soft feeling it gave my skin as well as its cleansing ability. It’s ideal for anyone who has dry and tight skin and doesn’t mind a wash-off although usually I would advise away from using water on dry skin unless necessary. It’s all fragrance free so if your skin is sensitive, it’s a good option.

CeraVe Skin Care

I think this is the real star of the show. I used CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion under my Complexion Rescue (to make sure the two are compatible and there’s no balling up of product) and was really impressed. It’s not heavy despite being SPF25 and nor is it ‘suspiciously’ light so it’s probably going to give you very decent protection over the day. I think ceramides are the unsung heroes of skin care and CeraVe formulates using three naturally occuring ceramides as well as hyaluronic acid, everyone’s favourite skin care ingredient. Ceramides, by the way, are oils that form a component of skin and without them you’d have virtually no moisture at all! They form about 50% of the skin’s barrier and the more you have the better your skin will retain moisture. Once skin has the ability to retain moisture, it’s more comfortable, more flexible and much more soft. I’ve found it for £9 HERE (usually £12) but even at the full price it’s more than a bargain. I’d say it’s an excellent winter skin care choice if you find the cold and whipping winds are stripping your face. Non affiliate HERE.

I haven’t tried the Moisturising Lotion for Dry or Very Dry skin yet – you can use it on your face if you wish although my skin isn’t so dry that I need that intense level so I’ll use it on my body instead. I would rate this brand as an exceptionally effective one for dryness issues – it’s not fancy, it’s not sexy but it will do the job. That’s fine for me!

It’s interesting the variations a brand has for different countries. The Facial Moisturizing Lotion AM has different packaging and an SPF listing of 30 in the US. I actually like y’all’s packaging better: it looks like it would be more travel friendly. The Facial Moisturizing Lotion AM and the Moisturizing Cream (the one that comes in a tub/plastic jar) are safe for people prone to malassezia. Lots of malassezia-safe products tend to be skimpy on the moisture so Cerave is very useful in this regard. I mention all this in case you ever meet someone with malassezia looking for product recommendations. By the way, as my use of “y’all” suggests, I live in the southern part of the US, where the temperature being in the 100s is not unusual. So, I can attest that, yes, it works quite well for sun protection.

Thank you – really useful to know – greetings from rainy London 🙂

  2. My mom actually bought me the hydrating cleanser and moisturiser recently, but sadly I had to give it back to her because it broke me out really badly. 🙁

I have combination skin so this was something that just didn’t work with my skin. I’m saddened by it as I really wanted to get along with this product. 🙁
