Manicures – How They Are Now

[unpaid/giftedexperience/affiliate/ad] As we all know, beauty services suffered enormously during the lock down – they still can’t offer a full complement of treatments – but happy to say that my trip for a manicure was just the best tonic and a chance to see how things are being done differently.

I haven’t actually had a professional manicure for years – I like doing my own nails so never really bothered (although one of the things my daughter, Lucy, missed during lock down was her gel nails). However, a few months of new enthusiasm for gardening meant that some professional attention was needed. I went as a guest of Nails Inc to see how it all works under the new conditions.

Just Avocado It

My appointment was in Selfridges – I was surprised to see a queue outside but it turns out that they have sanitiser ushers (super friendly!) so everyone takes a turn to have a squirt before they enter the store. I mean, the wait was moments. Inside, I was seen straight away at the usual manicure table set up but this time, with a screen. The manicurist (Paris) was wearing a mask, gloves and a shielding screen (I wore a mask) and after re-sanitising my hands, set to sorting out the chaos!

Just Avocado It

I chose Just Avocado It from the new Plant Power collection which is a joyful teal shade, especially on newly shaped nails and it’s a particularly good match with gold rings or bracelets.

The thing is, Paris was so happy to be back at work doing the thing she loves doing, I was happy to be pampered for an hour and more importantly, felt safe. We chatted, it was relaxing, despite the mild misgivings I’d had about ‘necessary’ or not. Everyone has to be their own judge about where their comfort level lies, but I LOVE my mani, it was good to be looked after and while no, it wasn’t necessary in the precise sense, it has given me such a spring in my step that when I got home, I washed my hair and got Lucy to take pictures straight away! Just Avocado It (£9) is HERE, non-affiliate HERE, and bookings can be made HERE if you feel ready.

Even though this post isn’t about Selfridges, it’s timely to add in that they have just started a Virtual Consultation Service for both beauty and fashion. Fancy taking a virtual tour round the beauty hall to see what’s new? Book the Beauty Tour, £30 for an hour. Or, since we are all so much more into skin, Become Your Own Skin Guru, £65, 1.5 hours, looks like time well spent. Head HERE to see if anything takes your fancy.
