I think the Sleek MakeUP Rockstars Collection is probably their best yet – they’ve just hit on a collection that’s absolutely perfect for right now. The shades are the mood of the moment with colours we want to wear; lipsticks are shade-shifty and the palettes are super-pigmented with a choice of light or dark depending upon your preference. Two little Strobing Souffles take the highlight trend forward.
First up, the Diamond In The Rough collection: one palette with two cream shades and four powders. The creams are to layer over the shadows for more shimmer OR to wear as a glossy eye effect on its own. I haven’t tested cream over powder for last – it has all the makings of a disaster when you factor in lid oils as well, but I’m not sure I’d use it that way anyway – those creams are great little highlighters for below the brow.
In swatching, I found the lipstick (see main picture) in Scandalous beautiful.. it has a blue toned iridescent switch to it that’s really pretty and sophisticated. The creams ARE on the oily side – the plus is that they blend so smoothly and you only need to dab with a fingertip so they’re easy. The shadows are beautiful.. not much kick up (Sleek uses quite an oil laden formula which accounts for the density of colour and ease of application) and the result is something of a rose gold effect. The Strobing Souffle (right on the end) is Pink Opal so gives a gold shimmer effect – there are a lot of sparkle particles in this so it’s more of a fairy-dust thing than a subtle sheen.
Next up is the Hidden Gems range.
It’s more obvious in this picture that the lipsticks are faceted to fit with the jewel theme – this one is Superstar in a blue toned, deep, red wine shade. The Souffle in Smoky Quartz is warmer in tone with more of a gold base.
Why do my swatches always go curvy!!! Anyway – this is the Hidden Gems palette line-up with the Souffle at the end. Even though this palette has more possibilities I think I prefer Diamonds In The Rough.
They’re not perfect but really have hit the right mood at the right time – especially if you’re over the matte thing. So, complicated launch dates (they have to stop doing this).. 26th October at Boots for Diamonds In The Rough and 19th October at Superdrug for Hidden Gems. Or both from the Sleek website but no date given for that.
