[unpaid/ad/sample] It was love at first sight for Shiro Essence Lip Oil – this product is SO right up my street in terms of both performance and aesthetic.
The minimalist packaging and vibrant yellow contents just work on every level of making beauty product beautiful. I’ve mentioned Shiro before – it’s a Japanese brand (with a store in Monmouth Street in London) so the presentation makes sense as it taps into the clean, balanced and uncluttered zen vibe of Japanese minimalism. I mean, we all know the kawaii trend but this shows us different, more peaceful side to J-Beauty.
You’ll be pleased to know that it shows as completely clear on this lips, giving a transparent radiance coating that, if you like gloss, you’ll appreciate for its almost oil like feel without straying from a glossy look. I guess that’s the ‘essence’ part of it – that it’s got balm like ingredients such as shea butter and jojoba with a dot of squalene for good measure. Despite the fact that it holds so well in the tube (look where the doe’s foot came out and how the liquid hasn’t immediately fallen back into place) it doesn’t feel at all heavy on the lips.
The price gloss wearers pay for crystal lips is multiple reapplications because very few stay put – I’d say that this is no different in that respect and you will need to top up. I found it rather lip softening and the lightly grapefruity scent makes reapplying less of a bother. It’s not what I’d term a ‘natural’ formula, but I can’t quibble over delivery and performance and you can dab it on any dry bits such as elbows although at £32 a pop, I really wouldn’t!
