Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad]  The Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Bronzer is a kind of cream/powder hybrid and rather good if you prefer a matte bronzer on your skin rather than something shimmery. However, I’m not so impressed with the packaging and in particular the rubber sponge applicator.

As you can see, it’s in a compact CC style casing with the underside of the bronzer housing a mirror. The mirror opens back so that you have full access but the lid doesn’t open fully out so you only ever have an 80 degree angle at which to access the bronzer.

The applicator is like a sponge flipper – you basically brush it or flap it at your cheeks to let it impart the bronzer which in fairness, it does, but you would be much better off using a brush. It’s the weirdest way to apply bronzer that I’ve ever come across. So, I think you’re paying a lot for somewhat pointless packaging in this case.

Here’s my shade swatched – confusingly, the shade name is Bronzer, which only makes sense when you see that the other shades are called Light Bronzer, Sunkissed Bronzer and Deep Bronzer. It’s interesting to note that the actual bronzer product is made in Italy and the packaging is made in China and that completely reflects my thoughts – good bronzer, not so great packaging. It’s not a reflection on Chinese production but more of a reflection on how the budget for this product was spent. It’s reasonable at £13.58 (on offer) HERE, non-affiliate HERE.

Is this less fragranced in Britain than it is in the States? I’ve stopped buying Physician’s Formula altogether despite the fact that I like the formulas and the colors because the fragrance is so strong that it can be smelled through a closed compact and packaging, and it persists on the face! It used to be (back when the first Butter Bronzers launched) a mild and pleasant coconut fragrance. It’s beyond what I can tolerate now!

The color is really pretty anyway. Thank you for the review.

Jane! It is quite strongly fragranced and I just completely forgot to mention it. Thank you for reminding me – it’s coconutty alright! With a bit of a vanilla mix thrown in I think.

I was asking seriously – I love the products but just cannot use them and I wondered if perhaps they had different formulas. I hope it didn’t come across like I was chastising you!

No not at all! The fragrance is quite strong – I haven’t smelled the US version but I would class it as fragranced rather than ‘lightly fragranced’. x
