Terrifying! The new Maybelline Superstay Matte Inks are the most pigmented and matte mattes I think I’ve ever come across – to the point that I am scared to wear them! Obviously, they’re trialled for this post – well one of them – and all I can say is that ‘superstay’ is right. You could go through a tsunami and come out with a perfect lip.
This is the shade that I tried, Escapist. It’s a rich oxblood shade that has so much pigment, I got it everywhere. The applicator has a well in the middle that holds the liquid – I honestly don’t think it needs to because it’s got such a high saturation of colour that I immediately overloaded. I didn’t find it all that easy to apply either – the applicator feels wayward somehow. If you overload at this pigment intensity, you’re in trouble – I got it everywhere.
There are six shades in total for the UK – I don’t have all the shade names but I can tell you the middle colour in this trio is Creator.
Above is Escapist and Pioneer and the final one I don’t know. Maybelline is promising a 12 hour stay with this – I can very well believe it although if it is anything less than perfect, it’s going to look odd, so I would say it will still need some attention. To take it off, I needed to use an oily remover and I still have a light tint on my lips so there is definitely a stainy element. I didn’t keep it for the full 12 hours (I know, I shouldn’t have tested the very darkest, most dramatic colour).
Boots have the full 10 shade line up on a Buy 1 get 1 Half Price Offer HERE.
I know.. a distressingly messy swatch, but things DID get messy! The formula dries very quickly indeed – remember you only need a very light coating to get all of the pigment. If you absolutely love matte, I am convinced that you will absolutely love these – they’re the ultimate power matte and at £9.99 (less at Boots on the offer above) an affordable way to get a satisfyingly statement lip.
