Ooh – if you love the whole strobe effect then I think you’re going to love what’s coming up from Maybelline. The Maybelline Master Strobing Stick Illuminating Highlighter is already out in the US but as ever the UK has to wait patiently! This is strobing on the go made completely easy, although I’ve still yet to figure out the difference exactly between strobing and highlighting.

The shade I have here is 100 Light Iridescent so it imparts a pinky-pearly glow wherever you care to put it. Although it’s a stick version, unless you want go-faster stripes down your cheeks you will still have to put some effort into blending. The finish feels like a cross between powder and creme – quite velvety feeling, but I’m not sure it will hold for any length of time on oily skin. What is good about it is that you have a lot of control over the intensity of the finish – I’m always very envious of that light hit, almost polished cheek look (Hayley at LBQ is the master at this!) because I’ve never managed to make it happen. Perky cheeks help, I think.

As you can see, swatched quite intensely in the sunlight, it beams! For such a little, unassuming thing, it does give a lot of radiance. There is apparently another shade, Medium Nude Glow, which is warner and probably more relevant if you have any tan tones from holidays. In the US the Maybelline Master Strobing Stick Illuminating Highlighter is around $10 so expect a £7ish price for the UK when it launches in August.

It looks nice, but does it move your foundation around your face? I hate it when it does that, making me look all patchy!

I don’t find it so to be honest, but if that does happen to you, it might be the foundation and not the illuminator at fault there.

    2. I’d probably apply it with my fingertips in a patting motion or even a makeup sponge to avoid moving foundation. Also, if your foundation is properly set with a powder, it shouldn’t budge.

Looks nice and cheap for the amount! I personally think strobing is a more intense version of highlighting.

  3. Would it be suitable for olive skins tones or would I have to go for the medium colour?

    1. Jane

I would say go for the medium.

This looks amazing! Do you have a launch date for August? I’ve been going to Boots every day like a mad woman to see if they’ve landed, aha. X
