This is such a cool collection from L’Oreal Paris and Isabel Marant (who took advice from legendary make-up artist, Val Garland, to select shades and come up with ideas) that’s reflective of both Marant’s pared back, chic style and L’Oreal’s ability to be right on the pulse of newness.
Without a doubt, the best buys for your bucks are the Smile matte lipsticks in seven shades that slide in just under a tenner at £9.99. The collection is only five categories (lipstick, lip & cheek gloss, smoky shadow, clear brow and lash mascara and a highlighter) so taps right into the less-is-more trend but at the same time embraces the positive messaging trend.
The lipsticks are the only product that has colour choices – everything else is as is and it’s all HERE. When it comes to the clear mascara, well – that’s a millenial thing for looking pared back and bare faced but using the trickery of make up to achieve it. I think the beauty industry is undecided on whether millenials are wearing less make up as a statement or whether they can’t be bothered any more so this product is a kind of hedging-our-bets thing to groom without effort. I do like the lip and cheek gloss (when I didn’t think I would) because it gives a light pink tint and sheen to cheeks after blending but a proper glossy finish on the lips.
The lipstick shades I have are : Pigalle Western, La Butte Marshall and Belleville Rodeo.
