Huda Beauty Pastel Palettes

[unpaid/ad/sample/affiliate] I had brunch with a friend the other day who was wearing pastel eye shadows so beautifully that I had to rethink my first impression of these palettes. They’re really not for everyone but with spring doing its springing thing right now and summer on the way they’re more wearable than I had first thought.

There are three palettes – Mint (which I’ve swatched), Rose and Lilac.

The swirly shades that you see are a kind of gelee formula that go very, very shiny on the lids and a bit shade-shifty. I really didn’t want to stick my brush in to them because once you’re in, they never look the same again. Actually, last night I wore the aqua one on one lid and the kind of animal print looking one on the other (I stayed in!) and the gleam! In fact, the central five shades are all in the same formula and the corner shades are matte.

The format doesn’t quite follow through on all the palettes as the lilac has an extra matte shade.

And different again in Rose. I noticed a little bit of drop from the shimmery gelees but nothing to be stressed about. The other thing to note is that the matte pastels are very highly pigmented so the shade you see in the pan is what you get on your skin. I’ve tested pastels in the past that have so little colour that they’re not even worth dipping your brush into.

I think you can see well enough the luminosity that comes from the gelees – they’re like a lightweight shimmer wash and very comfortable in the wear. You hardly know they’re there til you catch yourself in the mirror! Anyway, if you’re a pastel person, I don’t think you can do better and even if you’re not, it’s well worth having a look around to see what looks you can make if you suddenly feel adventurous. There’s a nice article HERE at Glamour where the entire team tests them out so there is a variety of looks and skin tones. I like these small pan palettes – they’re compact and not too overwhelming in size which is handy for portability. Maybe I will have minty eyes next time I go on holiday! They’re £29 each HERE – currently on wait-list status as they haven’t yet gone on sale.

I’m a child of the 80s, so pastels definitely call to me.

But I am also staunchly anti-glitter on my face, so I will pass (sadly) on these and hope that just the matte shades reappear altogether.

I’m not a big glitter fan either.
