Hourglass Unreal Volumizing Lip Gloss

[productsample/affiliate] I’m happy as the day is long with lip gloss – it’s my preferred lip wear well over and above standard lipsticks. I find it so much easier – I never worry that it’s faded or smudged or worn or making my lips dry – gloss, particularly sheer gloss, is so low maintenance and the sticky finishes of old are more or less gone, although I don’t mind a gloopy gloss either.

There are 18 shades in 3 finishes: sheer shimmer, opaque shine and soft pearl. I’m finding it hard to tell the difference between sheer shimmer and soft pearl to be honest; the Hourglass website is broken at the moment and the stockists aren’t listing which shade is which finish. So, I’m going to do my best here by using SS for sheer shimmer, and P for pearl when listing the shades out in the swatches. Pearl has more colour pigment than sheer shimmer. In the picture above: Halo, Unreal, Truth, Solar, Impact.

Canvas, Child, Prose. Although why we have a gloss called Child, I don’t know.

Canvas, Child, Provoke. So, there we go. Personally, there are only a few colours I wouldn’t wear – I love the coffee-ish nudes and the pinks that make it such a wearable collection in general. The full pigment shades have a milky, vinyl like quality to them, the pearls have more of a metallic element, while the sheer shimmers are exactly that – translucent with a little bit of sparkle. The formula contains Volulip and hyaluronic acid, both of which are plumpers (personally I didn’t see any plumping or volumizing, but my lips are quite full anyway) with the Volulip giving a bit of a tingling element. No sting – we haven’t gone back to the days of Lip Venom!

Hourglass is positioning itself in the luxury market so these are priced at £28 – too much I think to be anything other than a treat, but I’ve got to admit they’re absolutely lovely. You can find them HERE, non affiliate HERE.
