Primarily, the new Clinique Superbalanced Silk Makeup SPF15 is for oily skin which is something Clinique does really well. It’s a fine balance for formulators to get right because oily skin has a habit of changing throughout the day – too mattifying and it’s dry and unflattering, but over-hydrating and skin can start to look too shiny. It’s indicated for dry combination, combination oily and oily skin types. I tried it on my skin obviously, but I don’t fall into any of those categories so it’s unfair to give a review exactly, but I will say that it did sit a bit in pores. The fact that it’s oil-free is very helpful for those whose skin doesn’t react well to oil in products, and oil-free bases are still hard to find.

The key formula ingredients for Clinique Superbalanced Silk Makeup SPF15 are laminara saccharina extract (which crops up a lot in Clinique products) and sodium hyaluronate. The first tackles excess oiliness while the second gives a moisture hit. It also contains light polymers (to help with radiance) and real silk (no idea, but vegans might want to give it a miss on that basis) and of course, SPF15.

The finish is matte – no matter what brands put into matte formulas to give radiance, I never find them all that successful and this is no different, but the coverage feels super light and silky and it’s light to medium weight in look. There are 20 shades (Clinique is very good at pink tones) and it’s £23 HERE.

  1. Sounds like a great option for my combination skin. I haven’t found anything yet to rival my Estee Lauder Double Wear, but I’m always open to new options!

I’ve been using this for almost a week and am very pleased with it. Coverage and finish are superb – neither too matte nor too glowy. Perfect for my ageing combo skin. This is one of those foundations that tend to look better the longer it’s on. Perfect ^_^

Funnily enough I picked up a 10 day sample of this at Debenhams today and am hoping it suits my super oily skin. I sampled their last foundation release (the Beyond Perfecting one) and found the lightest shade was too dark for me, so was pleasantly surprised that this time the shades seem better and I was matched to 02 Shell. Fingers crossed!
They have an offer on the UK website where you can buy the Super Primer & Stay Matte powder for £27 when you buy the foundation

  5. I haven’t used Clinique in years!! I need to stop by a counter asap!

I’m in that category where my skin in combination with a little of dry skin in some areas, so is really difficult for me to find a foundation that works with my complicated skin. But I love Clinique products, they work really well with all skin types!

I just went to House of Fraser today and they had an offer for a 10 day tester of this foundation and their primer. I was colour matched to shade 02 and have been wearing the little tester patch all day. I like the feel and the look. Can’t wait to try a full face.
