Primarily, the new Clinique Superbalanced Silk Makeup SPF15 is for oily skin which is something Clinique does really well. It’s a fine balance for formulators to get right because oily skin has a habit of changing throughout the day – too mattifying and it’s dry and unflattering, but over-hydrating and skin can start to look too shiny. It’s indicated for dry combination, combination oily and oily skin types. I tried it on my skin obviously, but I don’t fall into any of those categories so it’s unfair to give a review exactly, but I will say that it did sit a bit in pores. The fact that it’s oil-free is very helpful for those whose skin doesn’t react well to oil in products, and oil-free bases are still hard to find.
The key formula ingredients for Clinique Superbalanced Silk Makeup SPF15 are laminara saccharina extract (which crops up a lot in Clinique products) and sodium hyaluronate. The first tackles excess oiliness while the second gives a moisture hit. It also contains light polymers (to help with radiance) and real silk (no idea, but vegans might want to give it a miss on that basis) and of course, SPF15.
The finish is matte – no matter what brands put into matte formulas to give radiance, I never find them all that successful and this is no different, but the coverage feels super light and silky and it’s light to medium weight in look. There are 20 shades (Clinique is very good at pink tones) and it’s £23 HERE.
