CHANEL Tone on Tone

[unpaid/sample] So, I’m back and I’m ever so sorry for the prolonged absence – I just got totally felled by a triple whammy of sickness, covid and anxiety and had to listen to my body and take a break to rest. I’m making a few changes and going to try just working mornings for a while so I can ease back in and take things at my own pace. To be honest, I thought I was winning at covid until the tiredness arrived and then boom – I just broke! In fact, the pictures I have for this were taken while I had it and I think the next day I couldn’t get up. Anyway, it’s done now, Mr BBB has been stellar at looking after me and my favourite jeans fit again. Every cloud, etc. Thank you for all messages on Twitter, Instagram and here.

CHANEL Tone on Tone

The Tone on Tone collection from CHANEL is interesting because it’s split by undertone – either rosy or golden to give either a fresh or a luminous finish. It’s not necessarily about tone matching but more about tone complementing and tweaking neutrals so that they are as natural and effortless as possible.

CHANEL Tone on Tone

Above is: 199 Inattendu (rosy undertone), 196 A Demi-Mot (rosy undertone), 209 Alter Ego (golden undertone), 206 Illusion (golden undertone – suits me best), 212 Caractere (golden undertone).

CHANEL Tone on Tone

In the same order bottom to top: 199 Inattendu (rosy undertone), 196 A Demi-Mot (rosy undertone), 209 Alter Ego (golden undertone), 206 Illusion (golden undertone), 212 Caractere (golden undertone). There are six lipstick shades with the rosy undertone and six with the golden – I don’t think it’s too important to worry about what your own skin undertones are because this is a collection with nuance rather than with specific intent to tone match but if you know you suit pinker tones or more golden tones it would be sensible to head that way when making a choice. I suit Alter Ego best and it has golden tones which would be true to my own tones but I can’t say that I would have naturally shied away from the rosy tones – Inattendu looked pretty good, too.

CHANEL Tone on Tone

It’s exactly the same theory with Le Vernis – I’m wearing all the shades I have above: thumb first: 953 Essentiel (golden), 939 Singularite (pink), 943 Enigme (pink), 949 Denude (golden) and 945 Emotion (pink). I’m wearing Illusion. In promo pictures I’ve seen more or less all shades on a good variety tones – six basic shades that work across the myriad of skin tones in the world. These are the shades that you can slip on as easily as your favourite jeans (wearing now!) – absolute no-brainers that won’t ever be wrong. My advice is to see them in real-life if you have a counter near you. Lipsticks are £35 each HERE and Le Vernis is £25.

I wish you a complete recovery! I understand what you have been through. I did not get Covid but I had a terrible tummy illness for several days, with nausea and extreme tiredness.

I am happy to see that you’re feeling better.

Yes, Chanel! I have suddenly become a big fan of Chanel after my recent experience with Les Beiges Complexion Touch and the Mediterraneen eye palette. I will check out the lipsticks that you mentioned in this post.

I wonder when you will have a chance to review the amazing Chanel autumn 2022 makeup collection.

I think it’s on its way here :-))

So glad you’re feeling much better. You’re right to ease yourself back in gently x
Now as for Chanel. I still haven’t got over being denied to purchase something in Heathrow duty free. I was cabin crew at the time, off duty, and they said they didn’t sell to crew It does look lovely though…

I don’t blame you – that’s a horrible experience. I can remember writing for the Daily Express and wanted to call in a sample from Jo Malone (this is well back in the day!) for the feature and they said they wouldn’t lend to that publication because it wasn’t where they wanted to be seen. I was so insulted. However, they got a new PR and I really bonded with her (after telling her that the pine candle smelled of toilet cleaner) – we are still friends to this day.

So glad you’re on the mend Jane, and lovely to have u back, taking it easy though.

Glad you’re feeling better Jane, I missed your posts. Do look after yourself – we need cheering and honest recommendations to get us through the rough patch ahead!

    1. Jane Cunningham

Thank you so much Zoe – I am really taking things easy so I’ll be full steam ahead soon I am sure. I’ve got lots of newness to tell you about.

  4. Chrissie

Lovely to have you back Jane. Sending you lots of hugs and best wishes here’s to feeling brighter. I have had some low mood and an ongoing horrid virus which have both knocked me out, on the plus side my clothes are all a little more roomy too!
I love this Chanel collection, pared back, mellow and something for everyone. After reading your description I have gone for A Demi-Mot and may get a matching-ish nail polish. Take care and look after yourself xxxx

    1. Jane Cunningham

Thank you so much Chrissie – brightness is definitely on the horizon hopefully for both of us :-). Hope you pick up – I can’t think that a new Chanel won’t help a little? xxx

      1. Chrissie

Definitely, one day at a time in the right direction for us all! I am 100% sure some Chanel will help. I too am looking forward to your review of their other new collection. Bonne journée x

          Merci 🙂

  5. Alanna

Great to see you’re back, hopefully feeling a bit better! Please do take care of yourself- I certainly found that Covid can be a tricky bugger, even weeks after the fact. That said, I’m really glad to see you back as I’ve missed your blog terribly!

    1. Jane Cunningham

Thank you so much Alanna – I’m really sorry to just go AWOL :-)). Back now though with lots of newness and I’ll be at full speed as soon as I can xx

  6. Jo

So glad you’re feeling on the mend, very sensible to go at a slower pace and be prepared to adjust as needed xx
These tones look very interesting, and I think the underlying ethos of inclusivity and complementing many skin tones is absolutely delightful – but I will need to see them in person, I’m one of those with a practically blue undertone (possible Smurf ancestry, I’ve always thought) and can make even quite rosy tones look much browner than they do on others…. 🙂

    1. Jane Cunningham

Thank you Jo 🙂 Definitely try first if you possibly can – I don’t have every single one here but have a look at 194 Sensibilite.

  7. Lizzie

Jane, I’ve been wondering how you were, and a little worried too. You don’t owe us anything , and I wish you all the best in your ongoing recovery.

Lovely new Chanel to look at is just a bonus!

    1. Jane Cunningham

Thank you Lizzie, that’s very kind of you. x

  8. Jane

Welcome back! And take it as easy as you like!

These colors are gorgeous and look so pretty.

    1. Jane Cunningham

thank you so much Jane x

  9. Trimperley

Poor you. I don’t twitter or Instagram so thought you were on holiday. Glad you are feeling better.

I wish Chanel would start making pink lipsticks again. The latest creative has everything brick red or sludge and it doesn’t suit me at all.

    1. Jane Cunningham

Thank you :-). I haven’t been on any channel for a while – I daren’t even look at my Instagram just yet ;-). They’ve got a new collection coming very soon so hopefully there will be something in there.

  10. Catherine

Glad you’re feeling stronger Jane, just look after yourself, we’re not going anywhere!

    1. Jane Cunningham

      thank you xx
