Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet

Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet

The clue is in the frosted packaging – the new Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet lips are very, very matte. Ultra, super-matte, in fact. I just keep hoping this trend will die a death and make those of us who like a moist and sheeny lip happy again, but there are no signs of that happening. I have about a mile of matte lip products to test, but these leapt to the front of queue… because Burberry. I’m having a shallow moment.

Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet

You know, they’ll really very chic in style and I wish I liked matte – I’d be happy pulling one of these out my handbag any day of the week. The frosting just makes them better, visually. So, Burberry has put some sophistication into the Kylie Jenner lip trend – in use, these do a beautiful glide across the lips. In texture, they feel silky with a slight filminess and not really like a traditional dry matte that you have to rake across your mouth.

In the swatch, you can see the density of texture and yes, on the arm, they do look a bit too dry – thankfully, on the lip you get a smoother finish. Shades from bottom to top: Light Nude, Brilliant Violet and Primrose. I wore Primrose for the morning and have to say I didn’t get good last from it but it was a uniform fade and no cracking – you’ll need to be happy to reapply.

So, amazing packaging, beautiful formula and colours that are, like MAC Retro Mattes, earthy and architectural. I hate them, but matte lovers will LOVE! They’re £26 each HERE.

I’m not a big matte fan but I do like the Burberry ones. Unlike many mattes, I do find them comfortable to wear. Initially, I purchased Fawn Rose. I liked it so much I went back and bought Primrose, Brilliant Violet, and Bright Plum. I was a bit disappointed with the Violet and Plum as they weren’t quite as bright and lively as I had expected. Even so, like you, I am still keeping my fingers crossed for the return of a shiny lip again! The volume of brand matte lippie releases is staggering.

  2. I’m obsessed with matte lipsticks! I love Burberry makeup! I need to try these, love the texture! x

They are superb quality, however. I do not like matte either, but find these are extremely useful as “base”, helping to maintain any other non-matte lipstick on top!

I’m with you, a bit of sheen/sparkle/gloss on top of my lipstick brightens my whole look. I bought a lovely creamy beige from Dior and it had the most beautiful packaging, but I didn’t realise it was Matt. I’ve tried it twice and it’s back in my ‘rainy day’ make up box – just in case!!!!
