This Is Silk Pillow Cases Review

[unpaid/sample] For years and years I slept with no pillows – they always seemed so cumbersome and in the way. Partly, it’s because I slept on my front and that’s more of a naturally flat position. Things change – I still like a relatively flat pillow – don’t give me any of those big fluffy ones – and who knows why, but I prefer to sleep on my side now. But, I’ve been given silk pillow cases as gifts over the years and have to say they are a bit addictive. I’ve just been staying with my mum and dad where (obviously!) the pillow cases aren’t silk and my hair. My poor hair ;-)).

If you are prone to bed-head (like me), a silk pillow case is your easiest way to manage the situation – the smooth fibres of the silk don’t work against the hair shaft like they do with rougher fibres so while I don’t say you will wake up looking blow dried, you certainly won’t have a haystack. Perfect for curly girls (and boys) or fly-aways.

They’re also immensely cooling on the skin – you might not want cooled cheeks mid-winter (although depending where you are flush wise, you may) but come the summer, silk pillow cases come into their own. I love that first sensual feel of coolness and softness when you lay your head down. If you’re prone to waking up with creases imprinted on your skin, that won’t happen with silk – I say this as someone who misguidedly bought a pillow case with buttons (John Lewis) and spent an entire morning with a button mark embedded in my face. I use silk pillow cases all year round and am a big fan. This Is Silk are next level if you are an aficionado – a good weight so they’re not flimsy, supremely smooth and machine washable (at 30 degrees). Actually, I’m going to be a bit nerdy now and say that the most satisfying thing to iron is a silk pillow case.

I’ve taken a long way around to say that that This Is Silk has an offer for purchases of two items in their sale section – you’ll get one free. The pillow cases are £60 each – so that makes them £30. You need to add two items to your basket (from that section, they don’t need to be the same item, it will be cheapest free) and the discount will happen automatically. It’s a very good offer in my view. The pillow cases (and mask) that I have featured are £60 and not in the offer but I have my eye on the light blue one (but maybe not the black marbled one!) that is – a blue silk eye mask to go with that? Also in the sale. Another quick tip is the cashmere bed socks – again, two for one! What I want to know is if anyone has slept in silk sheets? Don’t you just quietly slide out in the middle of the night? Head HERE.

  1. I absolutely love silk pillowcases as well, Jane, especially as a very hot sleeper. Each Black Friday now I upgrade us with a new pair from Slip – have you tried that brand? Much easier to get a hold of here in Australia. Ruth from A Model Recommends wrote a while ago very glowingly of This Is Silk’s cleanser, too, so I do wish the brand would ship here. Maybe one day.

I love the look of white silk ones straight out of the box, but have found over time they take on a yellowish tinge, so my tip is to get silver. This year I surprised myself and went for marble, though they’re much less OTT than the black marble you mentioned, haha. Also, could not agree more that they have become quite my favourite thing to iron 🙂 xx Zoe

I have tried Slip – it’s also lovely. Thanks for the tip re silver and also thank you for agreeing about the ironing. The only other things I don’t mind ironing are baby clothes! It’s been a long time but I used to enjoy the smallness of them 🙂

      1. Oh that sounds so cute (and also satisfying!) My other nerdy ironing favourites are tea towels and ordinary pillowcases, but the silk ones definitely are a little something special – it’s all in the glide. Have to take the tiny joys where we can, haha. x

          quite!

And how good are the Silk scrunchies?!? I thought the were a ridiculous price, until I tried them. They keep my hair in perfect Nick, and crease free. Even when worn out and over stretched, they still get the job done.

Yes exactly! Silks and Invisibobble only for my hair 🙂

As soon as you mentioned machine washable, I had to get a couple of silk pillowcases. I have never tried them before, but have curly/wavy hair, so have always wanted to. I chose the rose gold. Emma x

Oh, the rose gold looks so pretty! Yes you need to wash at 30 degrees so I put mine in the delicates cycle.

Thanks will make sure I do that. X
