Chilcot Botanicals Dog Shampoo & Conditioner

[unpaid/sample] I’ve finally managed to get Honey into the bath to test this dog-friendly duo properly. She is very fragile now at 17 so I don’t wash her unless I absolutely have to because she finds the grooming so arduous. But it was a warm day yesterday which meant I didn’t need to blow dry her completely and she was much happier with less time under the Dyson.

When I first got Honey, I would take her to the groomers and she’d come back smelling of baby powder which I used to find horrible – I didn’t want my puppy smelling like a baby so I asked the groomer to stop putting whatever it was on that made her smell like a small human. I’ve stuck to brands like Malin + Goetz (a light, orange-ish scent) and Aesop (lemon and mint) which somehow seem more appropriate but in fact are more expensive that my own shampoo! Chilcot’s version is infused with lavender and peppermint with aloe vera for a mild but effective cleanse. In fact, out of curiosity, I used it on my own hair (very nice clean and shiny result thank you!).

Gone are the days where I can do two shampoos and rinsing plus a conditioner – she can’t stand for long enough in any comfort – so the revelation is the spray on, leave-in conditioner. Because I’ve been so averse to leave-in conditioners for myself, I’ve somehow linked the same aversion to dog conditioner. Now that I’ve discovered the wonder of Aveda Leave In Conditioner for myself, it follows that I had no hesitation in spritzing Honey with the Chilcot spray-on (no, I didn’t try it on me!). It’s nicely pH balanced so all I needed to do was a quick comb though afterwards and her hair is so soft now. It’s more pepperminty than lavendery and it doesn’t last all that long which is fine by me – it’s long enough to get that fresh, clean scent but not so long that you feel it’s too much. There’s a Rosemary & Geranium variant too. They’re both £15 each HERE. A quick pic of Honey below taken in the kitchen this morning – before you wonder, fringe-cutting is this evening. We have do things a bit at a time 🙂

I’m normally a “cat” person probably because growing up we always had cats. The exception being in 1954 when we lived in Singapore and had a dog called Judy. Honey is very cute!

Judy is a gorgeous name for a dog 🙂

Darling Honey, she is a peach. Nothing but the very best pampering for madame. Such a lovely photo Jane. Give her a belly tickle (or whatever is her favourite) from me xxx

      Thanks Chrissie!!

Honey is so cutiful! 🙂 I normally take dogs shampoo from my vet – no added scent at all.. Love some mint or lavender – but was told that for dogs it all smells way too much, so alas, our beagle Frodo has to smell… well, wet dog smell after washing 🙂

They’re quite light and scents don’t seem to stay on the fur – she doesn’t smell of lavender that’s for sure! But the conditioner is a godsend really.

Good when both interests of people and their pets considered! (me myself – gimme anytime something WITH aroma, I hate scentless stuff) Yep, I see for fluffy dogs it’s a must (conditioner) and a great help to keep fuzziness at bay 🙂

          exactly that Anna!

    That is so lovely.

I’ve been using Sanex 0% for sensitive skin on my Daisy…as we have to wash her most days because she runs through mud and then sleeps in my daughter’s bed at night. Daisy is only 8, but only likes her bath at 40C and a fluffed up pillow….I’d better stop now! Hope you’re well. Cx

Catherine I hear you – Daisy is being treated like the queen she is! We are very guilty of the same – possibly more.. eek!

Ah Jane is Honey a Bichon?? I’ve been reading you all these years and never realised! We have a bichon puppy and taking him for his first puppy trim next week. We haven’t washed him ourselves yet but that spray on leave in conditioner sounds lovely, will have to get that in for when he’s allowed out to walk the muddy parks!

She is a toy poodle … I don’t keep her in fancy poodle cuts though (mainly because I do her grooming myself and I can’t!) .. how lovely, puppies are the best things ever 🙂

Hi there . Do you know of any good staff to clean and keep the tear stains clean on them ? I have one like yours and it’s so hard to take it out . Thank you

No I just leave Honey’s now – she is 17 so I don’t do anything that’s not essential but I know you can get stuff to wipe over the area with cotton wool or something – Pet’s Purest Eye Pro is one x
