[productsample/affiliatelink] Ever wondered, when you see those sumptuous, flower filled event pictures on Instagram, who actually creates the floral decorations? I’ve trailed my way through flower arches, past flower walls and tried to chat across a table that’s literally buckling with the weight of arrangements and not once wondered who put the work in!
It could very well be that it’s florist, Philippa Craddock’s handiwork – her client list reads like who’s who of fashion and beauty (Alexander McQueen, Christian Dior, Hermes, Jo Malone, British Vogue, Lancome, Space NK and Fortnum & Mason to name drop a few). It seems a natural next step to create a fragranced candle line. With a million and one candles on the market, it’s clear that something different is required – and so it is with the Philippa Craddock line.
I think you could say that the line explores the secret scents of a garden – the less obvious olfactory nudges that we probably all know but rarely explore while favouring floral scents. As well as Bosk & Herb (bosk is a thicket of bushes), there’s Cutting Garden & Hedgerow, Greenhouse & Potting Shed and Rich Earth & Spruce Branches. Even just writing the words Greenhouse & Potting Shed reminds me of my dad’s shed that stored potatoes, the lawnmower, tarpaulins and terracotta pots … it was one of my favourite smells of my childhood being a blend of soil, grass cuttings and petrol. It’s only just occurred to me that I’ll never smell it again.
I think these candles are for anyone who wants an olfactory experience and moment rather than a background noise – I always burn as I write so I’ve got the fragrance around me. In this case, Bosk & Herb is woody and warm, green and deep. I feel I’m getting eucalyptus notes although it’s not indicated – but listed(amongst many) are thyme and fir balsam which might account for that type of note. These candles are all natural – no synthetics at all. They’re luxury pricing at £65 HERE non affiliate HERE but if you’re after a treat that sends you straight back to your childhood garden definitely worth a look.
