If you’re looking for a fulsomely feminine fragrance, the new Miller Harris Le Cedre is not it. It’s very much a unisex, masculine bias scent which immediately got me thinking of the Modern Gentlewoman trend. There are strong, peppery top notes (both pink and black pepper) that I found to be long-lasting and smooth before opening out to woody notes.
It’s part of the Perfumers Library collection – beautiful book-like packaging with the Library story on the inside – which is the luxury end of Miller Harris, and the price of £155 reflects that. This fragrance is a changeling – just when I thought I would be stuck with a peppery smell all day, the black orchid suddenly came through giving a tiny bit of sweetness. It’s also quite musky which I imagine would react very nicely on man-skin, but I’ve yet to find a tester!
Le Cedre is one for fragrance afficionados to appreciate – if you just use it as a spritz and go, then you’ll miss the subtlties of it; think of it more like a fine wine and enjoy every sip and layer. You can find it at World Duty Free now or at Selfridges at the beginning of May.
