When I smelled the Orange Bitters Cologne sometime back in the summer, I didn’t like it. The candle? A whole other story. I found the fragrance of the cologne overwhelming but in candle form, it seems gentler and more citrussy.
The Jo Malone Orange Bitters Candle is definitely all about the citrus; mandarin and orange for sweetness and bitter orange to tone it down into something more sophisticated. The undercurrent of amber and sandalwood gives it a warming aspect. I like this way more than Pine & Eucalyptus (which took a while for me to love in the first place) and I guess you could say that Orange Bitters is for anyone who is well and truly over the pine-tree thing and looking for something else with a festive feel.
I’m genuinely very pleased to have this – I’ve popped it away after initial testing to use nearer the time as our family Christmas fragrance. However, I will point out that it’s a whopping £120 which is rather terrifying. The Jo Malone Orange Bitters Candle launches next month.
