Jimmy Boyd Fragrances

Jimmy Boyd Fragrances

There’s so much going on in fragrance world at the moment.. if you’re a regular reader of BBB then you’ll know that fragrance isn’t my favourite thing to write about, but when you come across a brand like Jimmy Boyd the job is so much easier. The quirkiest thing about the Jimmy Boyd range is that Jimmy is Spanish! But, his father is from Scotland, hence the very Scottish name. I’ve got a selection of phials that I’ve been spritzing over the past couple of days, and can definitely say they’re not your usual perfumes.

The thing I noticed most of all is that when you spritz, you seem to get the whole fragrance straight away without having to wait for a million different dry down permuations. You can often start off loving a fragrance but by the time it has sat on your skin for a while you can end up with something entirely different. There’s no alcohol blast either. While many of Jimmy Boyd’s fragrances are inspired by Spanish cities, there’s quite a lot of rain going on as a theme (those Scottish roots), so I’ll focus on Spring Rain which is so pretty and dewy in composition.

The notes in Spring Rain are sage, artemesia, sandalwood and oakmoss, and it really does capture that ‘after the rain’ smell, but think rain on hillsides, not rain on a pavement. I think this is the most unisex of the collection I have here – just as lovely and interesting on a man as on a woman. Fragrances that are heavy on herbs – sage in particular – can leave you smelling oven-ready, but that’s not the case here with the moss and wood being more heavy than the actual sage. Wild Roses is a different take on traditionally hefty rose fragraces – it’s far more light and fresh than most , while Sweet Love is a heady composition of warm, floral and vanilla notes. Made In Ibiza is the one if you like energetic and feminine scents – it’s very vibrant indeed with lemon, mandarin, bergamot and thyme. Made In India is the only one I haven’t tested because the sampler didn’t work, but if you like the sound of Lime and Jasmine, that that’s the one for you.

The fragrance market is ridiculously crowded – I think it’s a brave person indeed that brings out a range into space that already appears full to bursting. But, there’s definitely something exciting and unusual about the Jimmy Boyd Fragrances.

They’re available HERE for £39.
