Floral Street Fragrances

Floral Street Fragrances

I’ve wandered past the Floral Street store in Covent Garden many times – it’s a very compelling concept with powerful visuals that pull you inside to a garden of perfumes. The brand is by Michelle Feeney, of St Tropez fame, and it feels like rather a personal journey, shaking off fake tan and on to pastures new. I love this sample set – it’s the best possible way to experience a number of fragrances without having to bow to pressure in store. It’s really hard, faced with a wall of fragrances, to try them all and pick just one. I’m a big fan of fragrance sampling to see how things sit at home and it’s a bargain (in my view) at £12.50 HERE (also the mum in me is immediately thinking stocking fillers!).

Inside the sample set you get London Poppy, Wonderland Peony, Neon Rose, Wild Vanilla Orchid, Iris Goddess, Chypre Sublime, Black Lotus and Ylang Ylang Espresso. The two I’ve picked out to review in more detail are Neon Rose and Ylang Ylang Espresso – they’re complete opposites! Neon Rose was initially disappointing in that it was a big blast of not particularly nice vanilla with a bit of rose in it somewhere. However, once it settled in to my skin it became something rather lovely – a warm, milky rose with muted sweetness; a very easy wear that’s a little bit comfort and a little bit sensual. Ylang Ylang Espresso is a much bigger fragrance in terms of personality – there’s a lot of ylang ylang with just a tiny bit of bitter coffee behind it and a tad too much vanilla for my taste. If you love vanilla (as Michelle clearly does) I can’t see you’d have a problem at all and it feels like a statement fragrance rather than the every day easy wear. I used to loathe all vanillas, but over time have come to appreciate certain vanilla notes but they can vary so much and I’m suspecting that they’re at the cheaper end in this fragrance range and just jar a little with me. Please don’t let it be that I’m turning into the kind of fragrance snob that I don’t like!

I think if you’re a fragrance butterfly and like to dip in and out of scents as the mood takes you, there is a great deal of pleasure and fun to be had from this sample set. There wasn’t one that I active disliked but at first sniff, I knew I needed more time with Neon Rose and Ylang Ylang Espresso. Full size fragrances come in at £55 in the most beautiful, flowery bottles or £20 for a 10ml Try Me size.
