It’s a strange thing, given how many fragrances cross my path every year, but I’ve come to be very fond of the highly impractical bottles of DKNY that arrive here periodically. It’s like a visit from an old friend in that you know you will pick up where you left off and get along famously no matter how much time has passed.
The DKNY Fall Limited Edition is a blend of pink pepper, Italian bergmot (the most over used fragrance ingredient ever), Turkish rose, peony, pineapple blossom and violet petals. But, the base is where it all happens, I think, with musk, vanilla and cedarwood giving it a creamy, warm, skin-like quality so you smell like you but better. I’m impressed with the last of it – a morning spritz will still be there come evening (which is just as well as a less portable bottle, I don’t know of).
Complex fragrances are frustrating and wasted on someone like me – I can’t tell a tonka bean from a kidney bean – so the flowers-over-warmth simplicity of DKNY Fall Limited Edition means that it’s immediately wearable and I don’t need to even think about it. It’s an every day fragrance that sits perfectly and while it won’t cause anyone to stop you in the street, it is quietly rather wonderful and eminently elegant.
You can find it at The Perfume Shop (it’s £41).
