[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I distinctly remember being scathing about the concept of night fragrances and yet, the minute CHANEL brings one out, I couldn’t be more of an enthusiast. I know – I’m very much aware of this complete about turn! Guilty as charged but fragranced very nicely :-).
If you’re familiar with Coco Mademoiselle, you’ll know that it falls into the oriental category. However, in this version, the woods have been toned down to a whisper, allowing the floral aspect to sparkle.
I’d describe this as a soft, floral veil of fragrance – a diffusion of jasmine, mandarin and rose with a trace of musk behind the flowers. It settles into the skin really quickly so the initial, gentle impression becomes gauzy and comforting.
Even the frosted glass bottle suggests softness – how lucky I’ve got a silk pillowcase to photograph it on! I mean, the obvious point is that if you share a bed with anyone, you’ll also be sharing your perfume so perhaps this is a lifestyle choice not made by just one person. I love the idea of slipping into bed (please be assured that the silky slip isn’t my nightwear – I had, years ago, a horrible night in silk sheets where I felt like I was going to slide out of bed at any moment and barely slept so I’m cotton all the way) surrounded by a gentle, familiar scent – it’s a very decadent thing to do if its CHANEL but if now isn’t the time, I don’t know when is. Sensory experiences are important, especially if they bring happiness and believe me, this does.
There is the obvious point that a dab of No.5 was all Marilyn Monroe needed but the difference is in the strength – this is perfumed water so it’s far more dilute and less likely to awaken the senses – the opposite of what you want if you’re heading for a solid 8 hours. Anyway, 30ml is £67 HERE. I imagine it’s a limited edition.
