The Sweets I’ve Been Eating: Somewhat incredibly, I lost weight on holiday from walking so much, so I don’t feel guilty at all about piling into these little Touron Basque which are absolutely delicious if you like almonds. Made from coloured sugar and almond paste, they’re impossible to get in the UK but I think I might try making some myself. From what I can gather, they don’t have to be this round shape but I’m guessing they’re rolled like rock sticks and then cut so it’s just a question of making a sugar almond paste, colouring it and then getting busy with the rolling pin. They’re lovely with a cup of coffee and so sweet you only need one (or three).
The Nail Colour I’m Wearing: Well, who knew that Gallery Lafayette has their own make up collections? This bright coral pink is Joachim and it’s a perfect end of summer splash of colour. It’s a gorgeous, shiny consistency that lays down a full colour saturation in two coats and it was only EU3.50.
The Book I’m Reading: I wanted a real page turner to take on holiday with me and I definitely made a good choice with Missing Presumed by Susie Steiner. The author has a beautiful attention to detail and introduces us to DS Manon Bradshaw with the scene set in Cambridge. Weaving the story threads of a missing post graduate student, a well-connected family and the reality of being a 30-something officer looking for someone to spend her life with is done meticulously. It’s not exactly fast paced, but more a slow, magnifying glass tale that keeps you wanting to know more about absolutely everyone in it. It’s HERE.
The Brand I’ve Discovered: Even with a Gallery Lafayette on my doorstep for the past week, I didn’t do a lot of shopping, but I did buy this collared sweater from a French brand called 1.2.3. The sweater is part of their winter collection which isn’t fully on line yet but keep an eye on the site because I’m sure it will be coming. This is just such an easy wear for me although god knows how you wash it! It was around about the EU80 mark. What’s great about this brand is that it’s not super-young and both casual and work wear are beautifully stylish. The site is HERE.
The Series I’m Watching: I’ve got a bit of a love hate thing for Crossing Lines because there’s some truly dreadful acting and some awful (practically insulting) stereotyping (moody ex-kick boxer Irish man from a criminal family kind of thing.. injured ex US Cop afraid to love.. arghh.. and so on) but the episodes are quite pacy and I’ve started to rather like some of the characters. I’ve seen all of Series One and like it enough to download Series Two where I’m hoping everyone will stop being so tortured and start acting properly!
