Iluminage Touch Update

Iluminage TOUCH

Several readers have been in touch asking for an update on the Iluminage TOUCH device that uses Radio Frequency and IPL technology to banish hair growth.

Iluminage TOUCH has worked spectacularly well on my legs – apart from one or two strays where I am happy to believe that I missed them in the zapping, there is nothing in the way of regrowth after the allotted time of 8 weeks. Bear in mind, however, that I have treated my legs with an IPL device a couple of years ago, so that may very well be playing a part. BUT, so far, it hasn’t worked on my underarms. The growth is possibly finer and slower, but it’s certainly still there.

Iluminage recommends that you wax or shave before treating any area – but I am sure that waxing works a lot better than just shaving. However, as we all know, you need a certain growth point before you can wax again and if you have to keep shaving it, you’re caught in a vicious circle. I am still convinced though that Iluminage TOUCH can work so I am starting the underarm cycle again, just in case there is some driver error!

I think in reality, an 8 week cycle to banish hair is optimistic at best but because it’s worked so well on my legs, I’m keeping the armpit faith! I will re-review the device in another couple of months.

  1. one thing I noticed when reading about this is that if your hair is paler then you must wax (or epilate) straight before and not shave. I recall you saying you had some grey hairs – are those in your armpits?

yes that’s right.. I’m trying to wax only in that area. and also using the machine while there is some re-growth as well (not harmful) so I can keep the cycle going x

I bought one of these after your original post and have been using it (almost) religiously for about 3 months, but so far haven’t noticed any change. I’m a redhead, and I’m shaving, not waxing, but the instructions said it would work even on fair hair. So far not impressed I’m afraid.

Hi Kim.. I honestly think now that waxing is going to give a more efficient result. I promise that it’s worked on my legs but not yet worked on my underarms. Drop me an email (britishbeautyblogger@gmail.com) and I’ll put you in touch with the PR for the brand. It’s an expensive piece of kit and I’d like them to address your concerns properly x

    2. Hi This was my concern too but as I said to Jane above, I found something on their site saying that redheads and blondes must wax or epilate, not shave for it to work. Apparently epilating causes inflammation in hair bulb that the equipment needs for paler hair types. Otherwise it won’t work.

Hi Jane, thanks for the update! Would you still recommend this device over others or do you have a different one that worked better for you and which you would recommend over this one?
    Thanks,
    Lisa

I would still recommend, because it’s so quick and easy..but I think you need to be up for longer term use than suggested x

I too bought one after your review and it’s worked on my underarms which had been previously IPL’d but there’d been a tiny bit of regrowth which has now gone after using the Illuminage. It’s also gone from my legs which never had IPL before but I’m lucky in that I don’t have a lot of hair on them to begin with. Bikini line has worked to a certain degree (previously IPL’d) but have to say the Illuminage is not as effective as the salon on that area. It seems to struggle on thicker hair maybe? FYI I have black hair

That’s really good to know – where it seems to be working very well is places that have previously been IPL’d… I’m still expecting this to work but their timeframe is optimistic I think. I’m not sure I’d expect the same efficiency as a salon time-wise, but maybe they need to adjust their claims on time.
