Fresh Memoirs of a Geisha Soap 2005

Fifteen years hasn’t been kind to the scent of this soap which I’ve opened for the very first time today. It was part of a limited edition collection from Fresh to mark the opening of the film, Memoirs of a Geisha in 2005.

I don’t know how I resisted the temptation not to use these as I’m such a bar soap fan but the packaging was so pretty that I suppose that’s what stopped me. I’ve used tweezers to undo the ribbon (well, I have got the time!) but it hasn’t gone back quite as successfully as I hoped it would! There was a fragrance as well but I don’t think I ever had it – I do love Fresh Fragrances – especially the more fruity ones and Sugar Lychee, of course.

Originally, the Memoirs of a Geisha fragrance notes were a real fruity-floral mix – jasmine, rose, sparkling langsat fruit, white peach, bergamot, mandarin (according to Fragrantica.com HERE) with a powdery touch. There is no scent left at all in the shea butter infused soaps but I can sort of imagine it, knowing other Fresh fragrances and having some sort of reference to draw on. I’ve seen this exact set on USA eBay for around about the $40 mark.

I wonder if you used it, the smell would be reinvigorated as you got to soap that hadn’t been exposed to the air.

I find myself wishing that Fresh would bring back their Roses collection. In 1999 or thereabouts they had a collection of different rose scents. I don’t remember specifically anymore, but variations like “damask” and “Bulgarian.” I know they have a rose scent now but I don’t love it.

Someone else suggested cutting it up but I can’t bring myself to!
