Linda Rodin is one stylish woman. Now in her sixties, Linda has a reputation as one of the most sought after stylists in the fashion industry – it helps of course, that she is an ex-editor of Harpers Bazaar and has dressed the likes of Madonna and Gisele. Style aside, I’m fascinated by her approach to beauty. She’s all about fast beauty – and simplicity in products. Which is why she created her own.
The story of Olio Lusso, the most well known product from the Rodin brand, is literally a dabbling at the kitchen table story. Brands often pop up that stem from home-made attempts; some disappear as fast as they’ve arrived, while others, like Rodin are here for the long haul. Olio Lusso is probably the oil you’d make for yourself if you had the wearwithall and took Linda a year to perfect. There’s no sparing on the ingredients (which accounts for the hefty price tag), with each of the eleven oils chosen for their high efficacy.
I’ll run through the list: Neroli, Sunflower, Calendula Flower, Arnica Montana Flower, Sweet Almond, Rosehip, Argan, Evening Primrose, Jojoba, Apricot and Jasmine. What that means, roughly translated into skin benefits, is a very healthy dose of glycerides, fatty acids, Vitamin C, flavinoids, Omegas and vitamins, including Vitamin A (retinol).
It’s interesting that this oil blend has strong benefits for older skin and yet, that’s not the focus of the oil. It’s more about simplicity and efficiency – there’s no real focus on anti-ageing although it’s clearly beneficial for that – with clear and supple skin that’s high on luminosity. Luminous, glowy skin is absolutely achievable at any age and always looks pretty, no matter what. You don’t need faux glow, when the real thing looks fresh and vibrant.
Olio Russo is a rather scary £97, but I’ve genuinely never heard anything other than rave reviews about this. And, I absolutely love that it’s made by a woman in her sixties who has experienced the skin ageing process, and who’d rather have healthy, dewy skin that’s perfect for her face and age than wanting to banish all signs of ageing.
There are now other elements to Linda Rodin’s range although rather hard to get in the UK. Olio Russo is available HERE but I rather like the lip balm ring available in the US; it’s a big chunk of fun.
