[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] A couple of key components need to come out of lipsticks in order for them to be classed as vegan. You will sometimes see beeswax as an ingredient although it’s increasingly replaced with carnauba wax by many brands as a shine giver that also prevents melting. It’s not an unproblematic ingredient, but it comes from a plant (the carnauba palm). More rarely, these days, lanolin pops up that prevents vegan status and for a lipstick to be vegan you can’t have carmine either. It’s the latter that creates more of an issue for brands than anything else. However, Urban Decay has brought out a Vice Vegan collection in three finishes, matte, cream and shine.
There are 35 shades to choose from with the same high impact that Urban Decay is known for and they’re laced with avocado oil, hyaluronic acid and aloe vera to boost moisture. I really can’t tell the difference (although it has been a while since I’ve used UD) texturally – same old story that I don’t love the mattes but the cream and shine are a different matter, especially the shine formula that’s sumptuous and super glossy. Delicious, actually.
Shades from bottom to top are: Uptight (matte), Naked (cream), June Gloom (shine) and Art Walk (matte). They’re £19 each (on offer at the time of writing for £15.20 HERE thanks to a site-wide 20% off so quite honestly, now is the time to make your vegan friends happy at Christmas! In fact, if you’re in that highly organised mindset, there’s a half price Prince Palette that is not vegan but absolutely stunning HERE)
I’ve already bought a couple of things for that time of year – I just buy when I see and then there’s no grand panic in December. I mean, there always is but it’s less of one knowing I’ve got a few parts of it under my belt. There are offers everywhere just now so it really does pay to put your mind into a different gear for an hour or so. Non-affiliate is HERE.
