Typology Lip Oil Review

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I loved Typology’s tinted balms that can be used on cheeks or lips but the newer product is the Lip Oil which is purely for lips. These oils won a Cosmopolitan Summer Beauty Award and I think they’re tapping into customers who primarily want skin led products rather than colour.

The shades, despite looking deep in the bottle, are actually very light and take a bit of effort to get even coverage with. The doe’s foot applicator is tiny and probably needs to be bigger to give a one shot cover without needing to go back and tidy up or add more. I think that’s the problem – a big, cushiony applicator would sort that right out and for something that should be effortless requires a little effort. It’s not a deal breaker and I see why it has to be small to push into a nail polish style bottle. They look great but there has clearly been a compromise.

On the lips, the oils are very comfortable – they’re not sticky so sit beautifully and feel very nourishing. It’s a blend of jojoba and vitamin E which gives enough shine to look pretty but not so much as to look gloopy. Typology is carving their niche with deeds rather than words – they’re B Corp which means certain standards must be adhered to and they’re committed to using low impact extraction methods from sustainable farming. It’s a simple formulation philosophy – you only need what you need for a desired result so there are no filler ingredients (or ‘marketing doses’ as we like to call them).

Typology Lip Oil

This is Ruby Red – actually a very nice starter red because it’s so diluted; if you think you can’t or daren’t wear red, you can wear this.

Typology Lip Oil

This is coral orange. They’re £17.50 each HERE which feels reasonable as you really don’t use much at once. I think a bottle would last a long time. It’s nourishing lip oil with colour rather than a colour with oil. Great for anyone who prioritises skin over make up or wants to stick to ethical brands.

So how do these compare to the Ilia ones that you like so much?! Emma x

Completely different – Typology is more of a nuance of colour where as Ilia has plenty of pigment. There’s more of a lux texture with Ilia but that’s not to say that Typology doesn’t feel good on the lips, it does. Just more basic I would say.

Hi there! Does it leave a stain?
    Thanks 🙂

      mildly yes 🙂

Okay, cool, that sounds promising for dry lips! I have another lip stain that stains very heavy in dry places…

okay – yes I would say this one won’t but don’t forget any balms you put on top will break down the ink.
